Cat hasnt floated a secondary for many years and they had a lot of problems with previous clutches and belts. So I think they have it figured out with the auto deflection. It keeps the belt from whipping off throttle. Fine balance between primary and secondary setup to prevent that. Yamaha especially with adjuster has too much float and probably not that balance especially with a tune.
I'm speaking of the 998 Yamaha turbos, not the Suzukis. Auto deflection does nothing to prevent belt whipping, the heavier spring in the secondary will prevent belt whip which they have also found out, unlike Yamaha.
Float is just not needed and IMO a problem waiting to happen should it bind in an outboard position, which I believe is happening more than people know. Put big power to it as the driven is "outward" in low ratio and as it shift thru the travel the dogleg gets real severe and explodes and delaminates belts.
Belt adjusters are cup shaped for deflection adjustment so the depth of the cut adds to the potential float. Float is controlled by a washer preventing the splined hub of secondary from moving out. The adjusters eliminate that. Could be added but then adjuster could not be used for removing belt. Not sure why anyone does it that way anyhow though.I'm struggling to understand how this is any different from using a belt adjuster.

This is how mine is set up.
First I set my offset with the hurricane offset tool.
Second I cut the aluminum plug to be flush with the clutch hub.View attachment 143009
This is my clutch bolt.View attachment 143010
The washer next to the aluminum plug holds my clutch from floating. The two small washers are used to set my belt deflection. I don't need to take my clutch apart to adjust deflection.
Perfect! Thats another option that will work very well.

That's funny!
Just make sure the no float washer diameter is small enough so it does not hit the inside of the helix bushing.

You start to wonder ,if they had just put on the Apex vintage clutches with 1mm float, would there be belt problems ?? Did they just put on the rollar secondary as a sales pitch ? I know if someone comes out with a button conversion kit , I would be trying it ... I wish the old Helix s fit , I have a drawer full of them lol

Have faith. Solution will be found its just something new. Just so many Variables. Nobody is setup the same. Conditions and Rider style. Heck I bet even the type of snow matters. You start to wonder ,if they had just put on the Apex vintage clutches with 1mm float, would there be belt problems ?? I did all this on my sled a few weeks ago, its all in my build thread with ton pics and vids...LOL.
Will see if the belt life increases or not....sure hope so, but Im more about waiting for test results these days before I tell everyone its fixed.

2mm total shims for deflection
7mm hanging out(stock float plug) after corrected alignment offset(need to cut down)
1.475 OD and a 1-3/8" OD washers on cut down stock float plug...stock bolt, all to rest against HUB(not helix)
Setup with 1.2mm of float now only, at ALL times, idle to anywhere in the shift.

Mine is the same but different.
I can do trail side adjustments with offset, float/no float and belt deflection just by removing the clutch hold down bolt.
I did this last spring and have some time on it but not enough to say what works best for me.

great, love it. I will probably incorporate an adjuster simply for changing belts....But the hope is they wont blow anymore and wont need to be changed! haha
Great Job Brother!

My belt change tool is a chunk of 1 1/2" PCV pipe 5/8" long. It goes between the large flat washer and pushes on the helix as the clutch hold down bolt gets threaded in. It fits in my tool bag when not in use.
