The video explains why I don't question Dave's offset tool he is selling that I asked for last year on here.
He knows how to keep a belt on a sled with big power.
None of the other tuners on here would give out the information on this. I asked..

Still would like to see someone do the math the factory did. Only way to compare the old specs that were same for 20 years to the new specs for Winder clutch. This float deal sure seems to make sense. KnappAttack were you running a adjuster on your secondary?
Yes I was running an adjuster, but adjuster or not it would float either way. I'm going back old school Cat reverse cam driven with shims between driven sheaves to set belt deflection and locking it solid to the bearing after setting the offset to Hurricane offset bar and machining the driven.
For what its worth, the Cat 9000 998turbos have zero float and bolted solid, they are having no problems with the factory clutches blowing belts.
What I know about the Cats that ARE blowing belts is that they are running aftermarket clutches and have also figured out the specs they were given were wrong for offsets on them, or so I've been told. I have not had my hands on one myself yet.
Cat hasnt floated a secondary for many years and they had a lot of problems with previous clutches and belts. So I think they have it figured out with the auto deflection. It keeps the belt from whipping off throttle. Fine balance between primary and secondary setup to prevent that. Yamaha especially with adjuster has too much float and probably not that balance especially with a tune.Yes I was running an adjuster, but adjuster or not it would float either way. Just a question...for example , If I remove 2mm behind the secondary do I remove 2mm on the aluminum float plug too to keep the same belt deflection?Yes I was running an adjuster, but adjuster or not it would float either way. This is how mine is set up.
First I set my offset with the hurricane offset tool.
Second I cut the aluminum plug to be flush with the clutch hub.
This is my clutch bolt.
The washer next to the aluminum plug holds my clutch from floating. The two small washers are used to set my belt deflection. I don't need to take my clutch apart to adjust deflection.

Perfect! Well done. If a person wanted say 1-1.5mm deflection could either make the plug that much longer or add washers of same dia as plug. Simple and basicly free. Those are almost always the best solutions. This is how mine is set up.

Yes. If I want to add float I can move one or two of the small washers next to the plug and keep the overall same length so it won't change my belt deflection any.

I never ran an aftermarket belt adjuster.
I just use a piece of 1 1/2" pcv pipe to compress my clutch when changing the belt, I keep it in my tool bag. It goes between the large hold down washer and helix to open up the secondary. Very simple.

I'd just like to know whats wrong with using a belt adjuster?
I am copying your setup for my Viper. Wish I would have taken a pic of my buttons. 2 crushed and one half broke. Have never made a season without breaking a button even stock. Added a Hauck Roller setup on there now. No more buttons. I am going to blame it on the adjuster for now. Too much float. Effects the balance of secondary closing and primary opening all while keeping the belt tight. If secondary is off to side too much cause of float it HAS to be preventing secondary from closing as fast as it needs to be since belt would be cocked in there till secondary manages to find center again. Whip big time. Thank You for sharing!Yes. Nothing proven YET. But to me it makes alot of sense. Barn Of Parts showed how to keep or remove float while still using his adjuster so thats another option.I'd just like to know whats wrong with using a belt adjuster?

I'm struggling to understand how this is any different from using a belt adjuster. Is it becasue ther's no plug using a belt adjuster?

I am doing two different things with my clutch hold down bolt.
I am able to set how much float I have or I can set it up with no float.
The second is using the Yamaha deflection washers to set my deflection.
You can still use your aftermarket adjuster for the second part for your deflection.
