for those that have used Hurricanes tool and made adjustment's, did you recheck the offset of the clutches and were they within factory spec?
Yes, and Yamaha's spec is off.

Yes, and Yamaha's spec is off.
When it was aligned with the Hurricane tool what was the offset checking the Yamaha way?

Pinnin' it!

Great question. I’m also curious!

That number your asking for is not the same from sled to sled so the Hurricane offset tool is needed to set one up properly. The tool is the price of one belt.

I set 3 sleds up all have different numbers. Hurricane told me to throw the spec out from Yamaha and to go buy the tool.

58-61 mm spec offset.
Float of 2 mm.
So let's say offset was set at 61 mm and the clutch floats out 2 mm and stays there upon acceleration so now it's at 63 mm.
Now let's say the offset tool puts my clutches at 58 mm for the 1 to 1 ratio.
So the secondary was off 5 mm pulling the belt at an angle and snapping it.
Now most people are having to machine the shaft on the secondary to be able to move the clutch inward to get it to line up with the tool.
I had 3 mm machined off of mine.
The Yamaha spec if off

I would think the offset should be the same once aligned using the Hurricane tool.

Assembly line manufacturing is all I got to say about that. The Yamaha fit and finish is more than fit and finish and it shows here.

I did all this on my sled a few weeks ago, its all in my build thread with ton pics and vids...LOL.
Will see if the belt life increases or not....sure hope so, but Im more about waiting for test results these days before I tell everyone its fixed.

2mm total shims for deflection
7mm hanging out(stock float plug) after corrected alignment offset(need to cut down)
1.475 OD and a 1-3/8" OD washers on cut down stock float plug...stock bolt, all to rest against HUB(not helix)
Setup with 1.2mm of float now only, at ALL times, idle to anywhere in the shift.
The Yamaha method is off the clutches. Yamaha clutches. Has nothing to do with the sled itself. If you guys dont want to say what the measurement using Yamahas method is After setting with Hurricane tool just say so. I wouldnt blame you.Assembly line manufacturing is all I got to say about that. The Yamaha fit and finish is more than fit and finish and it shows here.

If you give exact number it may not be the correct offset for another sled so I would not want to lead someone in the wrong direction. I would rather see them set their sled up properly with the tool.

True, but we don't know that unless people give their measurements. I have a feeling they might have been sloppy when machining the clutches and there are variances. Either way the tool is pretty fool proof and makes it easier. If you give exact number it may not be the correct offset for another sled so I would not want to lead someone in the wrong direction. I would rather see them set their sled up properly with the tool.

Having to machine the clutch to get it to the full spec range that Yamaha calls for is an assembly issue if you ask me. Some sleds can achieve this and some can't.
I did not say otherwise. But the Hurricane and Yamaha method of MEASURING are both off just the clutches. From there yes assembly issues of sled will effect the wanted offset. If the clutches themselves are not identical within say .003in on every sled then neither method is accurate. We have to have at least one constant.Having to machine the clutch to get it to the full spec range that Yamaha calls for is an assembly issue if you ask me. Some sleds can achieve this and some can't.
