So I bought this 2018 LTX that was abused lol for cheap. The clutch rattle is embarrassing. I tried shimming the bolts on the rollers. Not as bad but still loud. Research research research. Found the stub shaft knock bushing thought I'd give it a try it was only like $22 versus $500 for a different stub shaft to stop the rattle.
Simple install mine was made by tapp but there are others out there that are the same. Pop off your stub shaft, press the bushing in and fill it with the grease provided.110%better

There are multiple threads on the product with various degrees of success.

Or you could just get a pb80.and then you will never hear a rattle or want to look at your primary because it's butt ugly.

Give it a few miles, I'm sure the rattle comes back after a few hundred. I put it in mine too, even with the TAPP primary on it.

As has been said, the PB80 is quiet if it gets the best of ya and you cant take the rattling. Ear plugs fixe the rattle too....

Did you notice any difference even with the tapp clutch? Or are you still waiting to put some miles on? Praying for ❄️ ❄️ soon

The TAPP rattles much less, but there is still some stub shaft noise.

I've put a bunch of TAPP primaries on different machines mine included. When new they are pretty nice and quiet, but they too will make some noise up around 4000-5000 RPM cruising along as they get more miles on them. They don't rattle at idle like the Yamaha primary does however. I have a few thousand miles on mine now and have moved it from my old 17 and put it on my 23. Have no miles on it since moving it to the 23 thanks to the wasted winter we had last season. The BP80's are good and quiet, but run much hotter than a TAPP primary.

Have you put TAPP on a cat with the ACT secondary? I assume the offset would be the same as the old team secondary?

I have never asked you, does the RX-1 clutch rattle as much as the stock one?

Oh, it's defiantly more rattle than the stock one Troy. But works way better, noise be dammed. The TAPP is far quieter, but still has a bit of rattle up around the 4500 RPM range too. Quietest clutch's I've had on the 998 is the old Cat TEAM and the PB80, both of them were silent.

I put a TAPP on the Cat, not sure what secondary it had other than to say it had the stock secondary. I set the offset on every machine by lining it up at full shift with the belt that going to be used and adjust accordingly with a parallel bar and take measurements to get thing perfect at that full shift. Ever machine can be different depending on centers and belts being used.
