Bill I was still adding weight at the end of last year. 3300 miles. Total at the end was 4.7 in tip and 3.2 in middle. this gave me 8800-8900 rpm.Glad to hear! Not sure of your mileage but the Viper gains from 350 to 800 rpm from new to 500 miles. I suggest going heavy on the weights and breaking it in before final adjustment.

I am running this set up with a smaller angle helix 45/43. Only made a few test runs in a bean field. rpms were down but out of the hole the rpms went to 9000 and after settling in it dropped to 8700 8800. I am running 3.5 in the tip and 3 mm shim in primary with gwg spring and 8dn belt setup. mbrp trail can studded down the middle. The throttle response is amazing and it gets up there quick. I haven't been able to go on long runs yet but 92 mph comes up a lot quicker. I am going to run this for awhile before lightning up my 8fp weights. No more banging the rev limiter which is what I was trying to accomplish. The other mods are just because.
You probably already know this so please excuse me if you do. But the tach reads slow, you need to push the RECALL button shutting it off then you can get an accurate reading.
While running, have RPM reading on the right screen, then push and hold down top right button until max rpm reached displays.

Now with the turbo i am maxed out at 83g and still into the limiter at 108 mph. Casting some lead rivets tonight that should be 6-8g each to try. i'm close. lol

Yep, not sure when it totally settles in but gains in first 500 miles are huge compared to other sleds I have broken in. Shagman let us know when yours no longer gains RPMs please.

you have to shut the machine off to reset. Make sure you increase rpm slow to wot so the you are getting the max from wide open only.. I noticed that if i hammer it from the start and your rpm's increase before shift you can get that rpm instead of top rpm. If this is confusing pm me your number and i will call you. Whichever side your tach is on the upper button will show max.. Will this reset clear the highest rpms so I can start new again?

Something is not right. My sled only runs 8200-8600rpm with 4.5 grams in the tip. I had to remove all weight to get it to spin 8800-8900 rpm. I have the GWG primary, 5 shims, 8fp weights (I think the weigh about 68.5 grams unloaded), dalton 46-40 and spring in 6-1. Anyone have the same results?
I notice last year with the stock clutching it ran fine until I studded the sled and after that it dropped to 8400-8500 rpm. Im not sure if this is why my results are a bit different. Seems to work good. It definitely lifts the skies and goes, which it never really did before.

Hi!
First how many miles on your sled? Until you get at least 500 miles on your sled I would not try to tune top rpm as it will change ALOT. Second, don't trust the rpm you read on the dash, stop and do not shut the sled off and read the total rpm by the method stated above (hold top button with rpm displayed to show max rpm). Mine can hit the rev limiter on a quick pull and say 8700 live, stopping and checking rpm max recall shows close to 9200
Second, did you run the original belt for a while? The 8jp can throw out enough belt dust to bind the primary clutch (that happened to our Red Viper). I strongly suggest you pull the belt and primary clutch cover and run the primary by hand through all its motion to make sure its not binding. Same for secondary. Our Viper was so bound from dust you could not push the primary in all the way (without spring of course) by hand. Don't use any cleaner though, air should do it and steel wool if you see any black residue on the primary or the shaft where the primary bushings slide.
Feel free to PM me and I will send you my phone number if you need help.

i ran the 8jpand had alot of belt dust.(pre turbo) in going through the clutches last week there was alot of belt dust in the primary clutch components. especially where the bushings are. i cleaned with warm soapy water then blew dry with air. much smoother now.

I have 3300 miles and I have been running the 8dn belt since last year. Just cleaned the clutches at the first of the season.

Hey bud, what elevation are you at? Also, were the conditions of snow wet and sloppy? Soft snow? These will play a factor in your rpms.
Sounds like you have everything correct, 8DN, 46/40 and spring set right. 3,300 miles, you should be broken in/loosened up by now.
Right now I would stay at where you are now as you are pretty much set at 8,900 and see how it reacts on hard pack snow
Like Stingray mentioned, you have any concerns....pm us or ask us here

I live at sea level but was up north probably around 3000ft. It was fresh wet snow and I had a hard time spinning 8400-8600. Sometimes it would only show 8100 on the tach from take off. I then came home added an MBRP silencer and took 1.5 grams off the tip of each weight. We had about 4" of fresh snow in a field under that was grass and to my surprise it only turned 8600rpm. I took all the weight out of the tip and it would rev 8800-8900. I don't have ideal condition here yet and will PM you guys if thing don't work out when we get good snow. The only thing that I find strange is, why would my sled loose its RPM's last year after I studded it? It had the stock clutching in it and I didn't change anything else.
