I live at sea level but was up north probably around 3000ft. It was fresh wet snow and I had a hard time spinning 8400-8600. Sometimes it would only show 8100 on the tach from take off. I then came home added an MBRP silencer and took 1.5 grams off the tip of each weight. We had about 4" of fresh snow in a field under that was grass and to my surprise it only turned 8600rpm. I took all the weight out of the tip and it would rev 8800-8900. I don't have ideal condition here yet and will PM you guys if thing don't work out when we get good snow. The only thing that I find strange is, why would my sled loose its RPM's last year after I studded it? It had the stock clutching in it and I didn't change anything else.
Your studs added more rotational mass to the track. More rotational mass will pull the RPM down further, due to the additional weight in the track.

Only thing I can think of is when you studded it, the track wasn't spinning as much and you were getting full traction. That will definitely bring your rpms down.....and rotating mass
Also, the 3,000 ft. will bring your rpms down and so will the wet snow. What you did was correct....take weight out of the tip (1.5 gram) and at sea level if you took 1.5 out of the tip, you should be at the 3 to 3.5 gram weight....that's where I am at and the way the setup should be for low altitude.
3,000 ft. you should have the weights empty. Anything above 5,000 ft. if you are going to run the 8FP weights either need to be ground a little or a very stiff primary spring.
The clutching on the cheap setup was always used on sleds not studded so this gives me more info as how to set these weights up for people asking.... Thanks sixstringorsnow!

This is my first sled I studded that wasn't in the 150hp range and never had this happen before. Like you said it was probably spinning with no studs and with the rotational mass and the sled hooking up would cause this if the manufactures clutching is off. I am studded very aggressive also. I will keep you posted on what happens when we get good trails around here. Thanks for your help!

One thing I've really noticed with my ltx and different short track cats is that the procross chassis is pretty sensitive to changing snow conditions. I went for a nice trail ride Saturday, trails were very smooth but snow was getting pretty loose. Sled would turn 87-8800, which is still making good power. Got back home and running the field behind the house which is froze solid and it's pulling 8950-9000. Just gotta get the best happy medium in all conditions.

Put the track in the air and turn it by hand to make sure something is not wrong there, just to be safe.

You are very welcome
As Studroes posted....difference in snow is a major factor and can really make your mind scramble sometimes.

Just wanted to say thanks to stingray, nospro, and shagman.
Following their posts and advise i used the green white green primary spring, 2 primary spring shims. 8fp weights with 3.1 gram rivets 8dn belt and shimmed stock helix.
The seat of the pants difference is quite noticable. I am now very impressed with the performance of my viper rtx.
I was hoping this was going to resolve my complaints about performance and it absolutely has.
My top speed also improved some from 85 to 92 @8800-8900 rpm.
I have a 46/40 helix showing up tomorrow that i will be trying next weekend that i hope will improve this set up even more.
Again thank you guys so much! This is now the sled i had hoped it would be!!

You are going to sh_t when you put that new helix on. You will have quicker pull and more top end.

412 miles before the clutching changes.
Only was able to put on 35-40 this past saturday. Very limited riding in my area.

I have never used anything other than a stock helix in my sleds so i am really looking forward to seeing the improvment/differences with this helix.
Yes i am running studs but no exhaust or intake mods.

Your rpm's might go up a bit with the helix. If it does change the rivet to something around 4.5g and it should be good. Please report back. Have fun helix change is huge for backshift.I have never used anything other than a stock helix in my sleds so i am really looking forward to seeing the improvment/differences with this helix.
