Clutching on the cheap

I have a 2015 DX LTX with the same set-up and it does run a lot better than stock, my sled has the Hindle power up kit with PCV and air box mod. I also own three Vector ltx's a 2010,2011 and a 2012, which are all stock. Any one with stay with my Viper in the midrange and walk away from it on top end. I have done it all, My Viper rolls free, the clutching is not sticking and is decent on fuel. So what is the problem here, is it the chassis that is slowing this thing down, a friend of mine rode a new 800 cat last season and he told me it would only run 100mph on top end and he could only get 104 miles per tank. Might be the nature of the beast. Next week I am installing a Hurricane 190 turbo kit. I sure hope it will run at least 110mph or I will be pissed. I mean 110mph on a hard packed trail, not on ice.

Take your vector clutched off and put them on the Viper and see what it does.

It makes no difference at all, I have tried a Nytro clutch also, same thing.

Is anyone using the cotc setup for a Hurricane 190hp kit? Do I just add more weight and if so how much?

I thought the Hurricane came with clutching? Otherwise I would look to Shagman's recipe for COTC turbo setup.

Yes, Shagman has a very good setup for the COTC with his turbo.

I am using your set up and it is starting to work real well. I am second guessing this turbo install on Tuesday. lol

Lol. I have turbo and it's a lot of fun but a little more work keeping an eye on things. But you can't beat the arm pull you get. You will smile every time you smash the happy trigger.

What was your final turbo set up?

Waiting for heavier rivets for the COTC setup. i'm at 84.5g now and hitting limiter. As of now i am running heavy hitters and the seem to be working well. I was able to get maximum speed (ran out of gear) on a perfect trail in a short distance and see 110 whenever i want. PM me if you want that setup.

FYI MPI has heavy brass rivets.

If you need heavy rivets go to your nearest a farm supply store and buy the rivets you would use to change cutter sections on a sickle mover. They are dirt cheap. Grind off what you don't need and squash them in a vice or peen them with a hammer. Super cheap and easy.

Are there after market weights that can be used instead of the 8FP weights? 8FP are getting hard to find. Thanks Fred

Hi!
I ran my stx with cotc with mbrp can and 2 shims 6-1 wrap. I saw 96 mph and hit the rev limiter. Yesterday just changed for 3-3 wrap and hit limiter at 1248 rpm.
Do I have to remove one shim or put more weights ?
And what is the best for the acceleration 3-3 wrap or 6-1? I'm nose to nose with 1200 doo

Best take off would be 3-3 wrap

if you are at 9248 , if you don't want to change rivets you can take out 1 shim to help you. But sounds like you will need to add some weight to the tips of the 8FP, which means you are making more power :)

Very good to hear :)

Yes good to hear ! It's now at 3-3 wrap and one shim. I will try this afternoon and come back with the result ! Just fyi yesterday at 3-3 and 2 shims and hit the limiter with me and my wife on the speed !!!;):)
Another big thanks Nos pro !
