Just curious how many miles you have on your sled?Well guys I have to say that I am very happy with the COTC set-up on my 2015 RTX DX! I have the GWG primary spring with three 1 mm shims, the 8FP weights with 3.6 G rivets in the tips, a Black Diamond Xtreme 46/40 helix with the stock secondary spring wrapped at 70 degrees. I had BDX cut the spring pocket 0.080" deeper to eliminate coil binding.
The only other mods to my sled are a MBRP race can and 135 studs down the middle. I was only able to test the COTC set-up on the lake last weekend since there is no snow around here for trail riding. It engages very smoothly at around 2800 rpm. When racing from a dead stop it launches hard at around 8700 RPM and climbs steadily to around 9,000 rpm topping out at around 100 mph.
I only had a 600 doo and a 700 poo to race against which was not much of a race. Both had studs and said that they launched with minimal spin (just like me) but I got them both out of the hole and just continued to walk away from them every time we raced. We tried rolling starts but the result was the same.
I have two buds with 800 doo's that will be much better competition. However now even the lakes around here have no snow so I will have to wait for that test. Thanks again for all of the help guys. This is what makes TY such an awesome site!

324 miles so I may have to add more weight once it is fully broke in if it starts hitting the rev limiter. I should also add that I am running the original belt which seems to be working fine for me.

So I was out riding in st germain at the radar runs this weekend. Had a blast, and got to test ride a few other people's vipers when there. Now I noticed on all their sleds their engagement was buttery smooth and their rpms stayed in the sweet spot that i hear about on here so much. My viper is completely stock and I can't creep forward to save my life, its so jumpy, also I looked at what my rpm was running at and It was at 9250. Do you guys have any suggestions to make my engagement super smooth and maybe help bring rpms down a bit? I don't want to lose my top end or my torque but I would really love to be able to just creep forward when I need to. Any help would be great also, where could I get the parts that I may need, Sorry never done a clutch kit before thanks for any help

This thread is about making your own "clutch kit" for a lot less money than buying a complete kit from a vendor.
I am sure that Pioneer makes a good kit but that is not what this thread is about.

Pioneer does not have it on there website, but if you call them Bruce knows what this kit is and can sell all or parts of the kit (like you have 8dn or 8FP weights already)

Both actually
Pioneer has agreed to sell this as a kit or whatever parts of the kit you need. Some guys have Nytro parts left over like the GWG spring and such and it is cheap and handy to have a vendor that will sell the parts of the kit you don't have. But yes the COTC is not a Pioneer kit, they are just selling the parts to make it.
That would be my fault if I didn't make it clear what the relationship with Pioneer was.

Thanks for the clarification. I already had the weights and shims so I sourced the spring and helix from two different vendors to complete my COTC set-up. It is awesome that Pioneer is willing to make it easy for people who only need some of the parts or all of the parts to complete their COTC set-up.
I highly recommend this set-up to anyone looking to improve the performance of their Viper. Thanks again guys. This is why I love being a member of this awesome site!

While we are on the subject of Pioneer. This is from their website pertaining to their clutch kit (not the COTC set-up).
"P-02SXV-S '02-'04 Viper Clutch Kit
The Viper suffers from an over-rev. The engine puts out maximum horsepower at 8500 Rpm’s, often we’ve seen them run up to 9000 Rpm’s on the trail. The over-rev not only hurts performance but also reduces fuel mileage. By getting rid of the over-rev acceleration, and all round performance is improved along with fuel mileage. Kit comes with primary spring, secondary spring, billet multi-angle helix, tuning rivets, and instructions."
I thought that the peak HP is at a higher rpm than what Pioneer is stating. At what RPM exactly is the maximum HP? Do you want to launch at a lower RPM for maximum torque and then climb up for maximum HP on the top end? Sorry if I missed this earlier but I figured that this would be an appropriate forum to ask this.
That is the old two stroke Viper from the early 2000's. Gets confusing between SR Viper and Viper.

Thanks again for the clarification. I see now that it states the applicable years which I should have noticed before posting. I had one of those 2 stroke triple cylinder Vipers with Hauck triple pipes and clutching. It was a great sled but I like my Viper better!
However I am still curious about what the consensus is on the maximum HP and the maximum torque RPM's for the SR Viper.
Are we tuning to launch at the maximum torque RPM then building RPM's during acceleration to top out at maximum HP?

Hi!
Report of my last trial today with 4.5 in the tip, 3.6 in middle wrap at 6-1 Dalton 45/39 and 4 shims .
I Hit the rev limiter (9281) speed was 93 mph in about 1500 ' . It's seems lot a spin at hole shot. I prefered 3-3 wrap. Next try I will remove 2 shims and 3-3 wrap and I think I will be on the spot !

I suggest do the 3-3 first and test, then less shims.

Blue Dave - Awesome to hear your results on the lake with very few miles on your sled
Please let us know the miles you get on your 8JP belt. And also how your clutches look...belt dust etc.

No problem, I will let you know. Now I just need some snow to ride on. I already have more miles on my truck & trailer than on my sled. LOL!
