Cold starting

Just get it running and ride it. All years of four-stroke, all manufacturers have had problems starting in severe cold temps. I've seen it all. I've seen 2 strokes not start in that temp.

Yah the battery has been on the back of the procross since 2012...never seemed to bother the suzukis.....i think its mapping or intake design

I heard the RED relay is a good way to go. Someone know where I can buy it ? Number of part and brand ?

My friends vector was outside and it would not go either.his cat and nytro fired up but they were in his shop.got mine in the shop now and see if it will start tomorrow morning.if it doesn't start. back to the dealer.
You can get the red relay for the vector its a solid state.

I have seen lots of 4 stroke yamaha's ( apex, vector, nytro and phazer), and 4 stroke cats (t660, 1100) bombardier 1200 and Polaris fst not start during extreme cold temps.
Too much that could be at fault. Battery strength, starter strength, oil viscosity.

yes like i said i dont think battery location is the issue.

Up in Calumet U.P. this week. As low as -7F and the viper has been starting fine. Original 2015 battery (actually the original one failed right away, and warranty replaced when new). My 15 CAT Turbo fired up right away too. Most starts on first turn over, once the Viper took too tries. The only Viper fail we had was reverse didn't work at first. Backed off the trailer fine, but then no reverse. Heard a click and the beeper was going, but still in forward. After it warmed up reverse was fine. Fine the day after too. May have been a cold relay. Viper running great in this cold weather so far. I know when the first battery went bad when new it showed good voltage and took a charge, but my battery charger indicated a fault. It would crank but not fire. As soon as I got the replacement battery if fired right away. These sleds seem very particular about full battery charge.

Mine will start jut fine at -7.its when it's-25 and colder it won't go

Agreed. -10 -15 I've never had an issue with the 4-strokes starting that I've owned. If those temps were a regular issue to get it started, I wouldn't own the sled.

Funny! Mine withe new flash took at least three tries to start last year when really cold. This year on a hunch I leaned the pcv a couple points below 2000rpm and it's been starting regularly in one try, yesterday morning it fired up first try at coolant temp - 28c my buddy's nytro next to it 3 attempts and not good ones. I think the new flash is very rich at crank speed.

Surely they richen up with the new flash to eliminate the kick back and starter issue.

How does a richer A/F mixer eliminate kick back? The new flash may have made a slight change in fuel mixture but there was more to it than that.
