The thread is about what you like about your SLED!!!!!Man o man some of you guys just can't leave well enough alone your not happy unless your comparing your discontinued Apex to the new Winder and Vipers. For what it's worth there 20/80 that vintage sled your riding is the same horse power as the 2018 very few changes from 2006 until 2018 witch does not compare to the Winder. I like your little play on words most powerful sled that YAMAHA made to date. Well if Yamaha would not of started working with Cat they would be still selling the Apex because they got nothing else to offer. You might be right the Apex may return, with bold new graphics because there isn't anything they can do to that lead sled to compare it to a Winder. So if you want another 20 page thread about Apex's vs Winder just bring it.

Oh I'm sorry my bad, that's not the way it came across to me oh well, I love my Viper it rides, handles, and drives way better than any other Yamaha I have ever owned and I have had a lot of them. It will out run just about everything on the Snow except of course the tuned Winder(I will have one next season). The ergoes on these newer Yamaha's are so much better I can put a lot of miles on and still be ready to do it all over again the next day. I could do that with my Apex but very hard to get motivated the second time around.

Love both my Apex's (like all my Yamaha's in the past and future) they have been good to me. Currently my 09 @ 6k miles needed the doughnut repair and my first set of hyfax. Finished last night installing copper doughnuts and Duponts, touched up my Dooley's with my Biteharder sharpening tool and all set for another season.

Nice guys, keep it positive. We need this thread before the season kicks into high gear.
I will have to say, I knew we would have some new riders riding our secondary sleds on Sunday, so Friday, I put the first 50+ miles on my daughters Viper as a shakedown run. I will have to say, I love all the mods on that sled. The riding position is great and for our trails, the power is about perfect. As it performs better 0-70 than the 600 Etec's we ride with. Ulmer clutching/gearing, Power Commander, studs, C&A Skis etc. And a nice wrap with monster logos adds at least 5hp (so I have been told)
I will have to gloat a bit, as the HyGear Axis shocks all the way around are the balls! I can't take credit for the mods, as a buddy of mine built that viper. But the suspension has got to be better than almost any sled I have ridden. And it loves to be hammered hard.
So Sunday rolls around, and I am taking one of my managers out. He has been dreaming of getting into sledding again, and grew up on the old trailing arm Polaris Pro-x sleds. He had loads of misconceptions of 4-stroke sleds. So I threw the viper at him. I told him, the only reason this sled feels heavy is the fact that it is setup to rail Michigan trails like a beast and stay planted no matter how hard you hit the fun flipper. After 50+ miles, he was sold on it being as capable as the 800's that floated in his mind. Honestly, for twisty trails, we are never able to utilize top speed. So it performed perfectly, and would be considered the tool of choice for our riding.
On that same note, it was my first day of the season back on beloved trail tank. And the Apex XTX did not disappoint. Even though we can't utilize the power of a boosted sled, there were stretches in the woods where the GPS would flash over 90mph. And at those times, it was very cool to leave the pack in snow dust. As I don't have the balls to out drive them in most conditions. So I have no need for 300hp. My Apex will do fine till it dies, or I do something really stupid.
I am really jacked to share the GoPro Max footage. As I nearly made myself sick editing last night watching the entire sled from above my helmet! And transitioning from forward to backward facing angles, while my head pivoted below me watching for traffic and deer. Amazing tech!
I may have to share some of my vids from last season. As we all considered it the best sled season in the past 15-20 years!! The Apex with big lug track and mountain skis just walked around every shorty sled in the group. And it was fun to watch them wince, as I would consistently put it into deep snow and tractor out, as they were already reaching for tow ropes and sno-bunjies!! It surprised me too!
I will repost my favorite vid from the 18/19 season

Great thread. Finally a forum I can read every comment and not be annoyed. So my Viper. First sled I've owned. (Polaris Indy Trail 488 Fan when I was a kid). Love this Viper motor. A blast to ride. My next sled will have more adjustability and better shocks, my only gripe. (well, no tuner skis either).
I don't have much to compare to, although I would like to ride some different sleds in my renewed passion for snowmobiling. Put about 40 miles on so far, just blasting around fields near the house, and its so fun. Can't wait for the season to start!!

Love my 2 vipers, 16&17. Smoothest sled I’ve ever rode. Clutch kit and air box mod really bring them to life. This past weekend in the Jordan valley trail, Michigan. Been riding last two weekends here already! Been fortunate this season!

yes it will my friend!!!!Sense owning sleds starting in the late 70's my 16 Apex xtx is the most high tech reliable trail cruiser I have ever owned, that sweet exhaust note leaves a impression of power that is not forgotten, currently the 2018 Apex is the most powerful sled Yamaha has ever made, Apex will return!!

Great idea about this post. I remember years ago, like the early Reeses Peanut Butter commercials of combining chocolate and peanut butter, what would it be like. Most of the people on this site probably will not know what I am talking about because they are too young. I wondered what if we took the best engine and combined it with the best handling chassis, what would that sled be like? Now it is available. Is it perfect, no. Could it be better with low hanging fruit that should have come from the factory, yes. I have to tell you that with a few mods to my 18 SE, this sled is everything i could imagine and more. My face is tired at the end of the day from the smiling I am doing under my helmet. I laugh like a little school girl. I think most of the people on this site expect near perfection from a Japanese company that they have come to expect with all of their other products. I take it as constructive criticism, but sometimes it is a little over the top. For the kind of riding I do and how long I hold on to my sleds, I have the perfect sled and could not be happier, priceless!

I had my first Yamaha blue blood "transfusion" in 2006 with a 250 hp 4-stroke Yamaha outboard, but the changeover to pure blue blood came ten years ago with my first Vector and the 1049cc Yamaha engine that made me a true believer. I love(d) our Vectors (we still have my wife's 2013), but the snow gods answered my prayers when Yamaha put the 1049 in the Pro Cross chassis. Three Vipers later (we still have two XTX's), with the addition last year of a Sidewinder for my Stepson, and my own new LTX-DX, I couldn't be happier. As we speak, my 5 year old Grandson's SRX 120 is at the dealer's getting a tune-up for his first ever snowmobile race the first weekend in January. I feel like I am living in Yamaha Snowmobile Heaven; all I need now is snow, and lots of it!

I thoroughly enjoy my LTX LE, by far the best Yamaha I've ever owned and the most powerful for sure.
I am sorry I didn't engage in this forum many years sooner as I would have smartened up and experienced a Viper instead of being stubborn and stayed on the Nytro too long.
It's not that I hated the Nytro, but the handling and suspension isn't what the Viper chassis is, that's for sure.
Come on snow!!

I LOVE my 2013 Nytro XTX. Thing is dialed in perfectly, and feels like it's on laser guided rails. It's got just about all the recommended upgrades, and hp is closer to 160. BUT, I also love my wife's 2014 Viper. Rear suspension on the Viper is clearly better when the trials have gotten whooped up. Right now, if I had to choose between the two, it would be very difficult (fortunately I have plenty of access to both : )
