As Cannondale mentioned, you can use a standard snap ring pliers.
Here is a little tidbit if you are having problems getting the bottom 2 (1 each side) clips back in. Always seems to be 1 that goes in easy and the other seems like there is very little room. Take a rachet strap, go thru your track closest to the drive axle and hook each foot rail. Basically you will be pulling your tunnel in just a tad to get the clip in.

And dont forget that top gear. Warranty it. They wear and need something better in there. Here is mine once again at 5500 mi. Second one. Chain 1.5 turns out bushing is .003 in wore on a taper. If out of warranty buy one they are cheap. Around $20 dont chance it. Even if not under warranty please turn it in so Yamaha knows this is a issue and does something about it. When this gear doesnt mesh correctly with other gear the problems start.

1st page, 1st pic; is there supposed to be an outer snap ring holding the bearing into the aluminum housing? Not referring to the small one on the shaft. The reason I ask is because on mine, there is a groove for a clip but there is no clip as referenced in this video at 0:43. I realize this isn't a Viper but it has been referenced here before-thanks.
Pretty sure mine had one. A spiral clip. Looks different than a regular snap ring.1st page, 1st pic; is there supposed to be an outer snap ring holding the bearing into the aluminum housing? I looked this up on several website microfiche's but could not find it. None of them show
a clip for this groove. Maybe it only applies to certain models, which wouldn't make any sense???
BTW, thanks again for this "tutorial", I used it to service/grease my bearings. Very helpful!

Wish I would of read these sooner. 5500 miles jack shaft bearing gone. Took out shaft, not that fun of a job to replace.

Wish I had seen this earlier. Last trip out had the jack shaft bearing let go at about 4100 miles. This was on a Friday afternoon in Quebec. Fortunately we were close to a Yamaha dealer. Made a call to them and got picked up at the trail/road crossing. They brought the sled in and began to disassemble while trying to locate parts. This of course was after we were in agreement that I would cover the cost of them taking it as far as they could pending parts availability.
The tech was willing to stay late to do the job.
There was not much left for us to do but go to the motel (short walk) and check back in the morning. Next morning called in and was informed the sled would be ready by 10:00 am. As it turned out there were no parts available. Instead they pulled the parts from a 2016 sled they had planned to use as a demo.
After all was said and done I was out $ 670cnd for the breakdown that might have been avoided. The flip side is that it probably could not have happened in a better place. And included in this repair was the upgraded shaft and chain case bearing. I am told there have been some issues with those on both the 14 cats and yamahas
So my question is at what point should the jack shaft bearing be checked? Are there failures with th axle bearing? That one is much more difficult to service. I have asked these questions to a cat dealer prior to buying this sled just trying to get a feel for what to be aware of with respect to the chassis. Seemed like the common answer was 10000mi or more no problem.
Many thanks to NORDIK Sports in St-Apollinaire QC. for turning a trip ending breakdown into a hiccup. And Thank you Yves Turmel, the technician, for staying late to get it done.

Axle shaft on the PTO side is just as suspect. Just make SURE, you put a GOOD bearing back in. Stock ( cat stuff ) is not always the best. Yamaha MAY have speced a different ( better ) bearing ???
I grease all bearings I can yearly.

Do you take all skid bearing apart and repack them? I did that on my venture mp and 10,000 km and never lost a bearing.
Yes. Only wheels I ever lost were those little hyrax savers. Well worth it. Not much else to do in April anyway.Do you take all skid bearing apart and repack them? I did that on my venture mp and 10,000 km and never lost a bearing.

Can you reach the three bolts just by loosening the track or do you have to pull the suspension. Should have done this last year while suspension was out.
The 3 for driveshaft clutch side just loosen track. If it's still in the way just use a Gearwrench. Can you reach the three bolts just by loosening the track or do you have to pull the suspension. Should have done this last year while suspension was out.
