End of season review

Had them lock the bearing behind the break rotor with bearing mount compound from prematex. Also welded the chain case tensioner roller screws and I installed an mbrp pipe which has hex head bolts rather then the Allen head factory bolts at the turbo.

What dealer did you buy from?

The guys that were quicker to 660' aren't riding trail sleds, they're race sleds. Not even close to same.
I ran into one guy who said he had a 375 HP sled that had never been beat (race your buddy on lake hard pack). I knew him and his sled so I said I'd race him but first we would go on a 10 mile trail ride. He declined saying his "trail" sled would overheat and there was no way he could do that. That, and he didn't have much race gas left in his tank.
There you go - it's NOT a trail sled like mine is.

What difference in speed going to 22 top gear? I max my speedo out at 121-122mph and I was out of gear. Had lots more power just not the gear to pull.
I haven’t run it, I changed to the 22 while servicing the chaincase! I ran 21 this year with same results as yours.

seems like oil leaks are a very common problem, I was told the tank is warped and they are putting on a new one. I haven't seen my sled in over a month...Covid and diagnosis being the reason for the slow fix. Glad this didn't happen during the season...The dealer has been good about keeping me informed.
What does baffle me from what I read here on this thread is that the chain tensioner bolt needs welding...I'm not a mechanic but can someone explain why this needs to be done and if the bolt eventually needs to be replaced is it as simple as taking a grinding wheel and cutting out the weld?

On many sleds, the screws that hold the chain tensioner wheel into the bracket come loose and fall out. The screw can then go between the chain and the gear raising holy H*&%! Also, if both fall out, then the whole wheel falls down into case and gets wedged between lower gear and case thereby breaking the bottom of the case. Game over! Big repair! If you don't have access to a welder, at least clean both the screws and the threads in the wheel and red loctite them.

I was always hoping there would be a legit amateur race class/event for trail sleds. Except I want to ride 100 miles on trail, then race on the lake. No fill ups allowed (this would make it challenging for high hp sleds to save fuel vs 600 that are wot), then race for 1/2 mile at the end. Maybe some score of how fast you made it through the trails, fastest to 1/4 mile, then top speed honors or something. Anyone could enter not just big money race teams (be fun to see stock 600's up to tuned and boosted Yamis). Intended for garage builders of trail sleds that is less focused on the winner and more on the fun. Everyone pays $20 to take part, and winners get/donate some of the money, half goes to local groomer club or the winners can elect to have it all go to them, buy drinks at different local bar/restaurants, etc. I love speed and competition but racing just doesn't interest me because you just need so much money to even compete.

Over time the data wienie in my would like to see if 600s start to be fastest in the trail, and boosted yamis/tcat in top speed or is one sled just dominate and fastest everywhere. Probably have to change the rules each year to keep it interesting.

Sorry bad side bar. To the OP, glad you got some miles in! That is like 3 years of riding for me!

Now that would be alot of fun. For that I would think about putting a turbo kit on the old 755 two smoke I am rebuilding right now... Not going to do big miles on the sled anymore anyway and I know it will keep up with a winder on a good trail with twisties...

EDIT: I just realized the first thing my mind went to is how can I build a race sled to do best at that... Not the purpose of the contest :(

EDIT2: extra clarification 2-smoke won't keep up unless trails are ideal for it (tight twisties with a sheet of glass for trail) and sidewinder is a stock motor with stock skis (completely stock 2020 ltx wasn't able to lose me on perfect trails for the 2-smoke, they were too soft for the winder to hit full stride). Anything less and it is left eating snow dust.

LMAO! That would be the point! Make some BA trail sleds, ya never know what people will bring, and if its something that is so dominate, then so what! I think a closed 100 mile course around Lake Namakogon would be my dream! I felt my last turbo apex was the best trail sled ever, it would be fun to have a event where if I got my a** handed to me with a side of humble pie I think it would be fun and something to look forward to each year as I scheme on what can I do to my sled.

Also be fun to see skilled riders, riding slower sleds MUCH faster then riders with big pocket books riding faster sleds slower.

Oh it would be fun and something I could see myself going overboard on. Doubly so because my backup sleds are machines that everyone has decided are terrible (06 Polaris fusions with the 700/900 motor) and as such parts outside the fuel injectors are dirt cheap.

The best year for me and my winder!!! 4000+km's, Only issue i had was keeping damn rollers in my primary clutch!!!
But going to be done with that cheap crap of a primary and going to give that CV tech PB-80 clutch a go. Also loving that Precision EFI 230 tune!!! Fricking awesome!!!!

755cc turbo two smoke? You MUST start a thread bro.....what sled is it?

2006 Polaris Fusion. Blew up the motor at 5200 miles two years ago and finally have time to put her back together. Have all the metal already, just need to replace the fuel injectors one went bad leaning out the motor. Still trying to decide between OEM injectors ($1400 in injectors eek) or turbo kit w/fuel system for not too much more.

Thanks Turboflash, I get it, I will contact dealer as they still have my sled and while chain case is open maybe they can weld the bolt or locktite it. Thanks for the clear explanation. Joe

I’m not sure what the stock gearing is on a ‘20 ltx le but mine would only pull 121-122 and that’s all it had, outta gear

Stock gears should be 21/41. Max 17 on a plowed road at 122mph? That's low imo. Luckily you are beating everyone, perhaps speeding reading low? Ever verify with GPS? Are your boost numbers correct?
