In quest for that goal of consistent 100mph runs I installed the Excell system. And a Ulmer Tuned PCV. I would rate install as a 5 on difficulty scale of 10. Read and reread the instructions especially airbox mod. They have very nice instructions included.

While the can mounting system looks kinda subpar it actually is very solid yet will allow flex of the sled. I have found straps around entire can to be way stronger than tabs welded on long term. Stainless and machined aluminum. Very nice welds except at pipe bend. Repackable. Perfect.

Airbox snorkel is no cheap plastic rigged piece. It is actually some type of rubber. It is molded to shape. I know what a mold for this costs to make and it is very impressive that excell would invest this kind of $ into making something for us. Impressive and comforting surprise.

Took it in ditch and it was noticeably louder than stock. I expected that. Banging rev limiter right away launch and not enough ditch to do top end run. I then added 3G to tips and had to go to work. Left for Norway,MI where there is snow at 1:30 sat same day so no more testing time. Unloaded and road in search of supper. Still hitting rev limiter slightly at launch and hard at about 88mph. Had a lot of fun and little ride for supper turned into almost 100mi! Making excuses but I slept like a baby. By time I got up all I had time for was adding 6grams to mid. Launch is almost perfect but still banging rev limiter but now at about 94mph. Sunday morning trails were still not groomed and it just wasn't safe to hold it tight for long. Did not find groomed trail till dark so stay tuned for final clutching and speed but it definitely has gained power since I had perfect clutching before. The exhaust seemed to get quieter as I rode. I payed attention and on groomed grade all I could hear was track howling by end of day. I never once heard the intake! This system may be ok even for me and I demand a exhaust that won't piss people off. We will see. Cold air intake plain and simple works. While riding about highest air temp I saw was 37deg f. Normally I am 70 or higher even at - 30 deg F.
Very happy and Excell did a great job. I can't wait to get the clutching right. I will post final clutching in clutch setup sticky.

Nice write- up! Did you talk to excell at all about the clutching they use on their viper with this upgrade? Just curious what they use for clutch internals and if it's similar to what your setup is. I seen excell's viper run a couple times early December and by the looks of it it seemed respectably fast, it seemed very quick out of the hole. As far as the sound that I noticed, on a wot launch, ya it barked pretty good, but when it was half way down the field I didn't notice the sound level to be loud at all, and just at cruising throttle, unless you own or know exactly what a stock viper sounds like, the untrained ear I don't think would pick up that it has an exhaust

I didnt talk to them about clutching but they do offer their own setup. I will work with my Ulmer setup and go from there. Just tough when there is absolutely no snow or ice at my home. I hope you are right about the noise. I have had nothing but compliments so far. Thanks Studroes.

Your goal is consistent 100 mph runs these sleds still aren't doing this with all the add ons?

Not mine. 90-95mph with stock everything other than 8DN and Ulmer clutch tuned by me. I fully expect 100mph consistently with the Excell system and Power Commander which Excell says is not needed. Not saying I never hit 100mph with stock power. It did 105 mph 2 or 3 times but I would like to be able to do that in a short distance and under less than perfect conditions. Its just asking for trouble to have to hold it tight for miles to get those speeds. Not worried about engine but crashing. My SRX could easily do it in ditch in front of house!

Boy somebody was up burning the midnight oil.

How would you compare the sound to the MBRP exhaust? I have had mine here waiting to be installed for months now, just hesitant as I was thinking about doing the Excell thing.

Good report. I assume you didnt test it without power commander? Do you gaine hp from power comander or is that just a fuel controller?

Sound is deeper never tinny like a broke in MBRP. I did not test without power commander but fully intend to once clutching is right I will install the stock 02 sensor and unplug Power Commander. Excell does say its not needed and I tend to believe them based on others results.

Power Commander is just a fuel controller for now! Should still gain power and or economy if map is better than stock though.

Thanks. Its a new year and already learning new stuff.

Yup hopefully that never stops. But eventually I know I will come to point where all I do is ride and maintain it which is still our #1 Priority right? Phazer was same thing. Really never touched it other than upkeep last few years.

One plus side to having the power commander already is that you can add on to that with things like the pti and imagination module and you can tune the timing curve, increase rev limiter and even add a studder button if it interests you.

What's pti and imagination module, and a studder button?

For none boosted applications the pti is out, that's for turbo sleds, but the ignition module really opens up the door to real fine tuning rather than just a plug in and go controller, not that the controller is bad, they're very good when dialed in right, the ignition module just give the ability to raise the rev limiter which the viper needs and control timing which when setup right will increase hp and fuel economy
