Exhaust Donuts & Y Pipes....Step by step

Thats exactly my problem. I cant seperate the y pipes from the silencer (exhaust) pipes that lead back to the muffler. The y pipes slip into the silencer pipes and I cant get that connection to seperate so I can remove the y pipes. What can I do to get them appart?

Bolt the Y pipe back to the tunnel and just pull back... pull hard... its just a slip fit from the silencer onto the Y pipe.

The 2 allens under the rubber grommets that hold the y pipe on are also stripped on my sled... Any ideas on getting them out? Thanks.

Drill the heads out, drop them down and re tap.

Once I drill the heads, will I drop the exhaust down or will I have to remove the exhaust to re tap. This is my first time taking one apart doing the donuts. Thanks for the help.

You will have to drop the exhaust out and you most likely have to drill and re tap to a bigger size or standard thread.

This is a common issue many of us have had with many posts in different places. Many of us drilled the rivets out that hold that bracket to the tunnel - many find the rivets ovaled out anyway. If you do that and get one pipe off you can get it all out and try to get the allen bolts out to re-use the bracket. If you cannot get one pipe off you may need to cut the bracket (or remove a tunnel protector) to drop the exhaust. Order up a new bracket and don't bother with the allen caps. Just go get SS hex heads to bolt the new pipes up. If you salvage the bracket and cannot extract the allen cap bolt remains (that was a real bitch for me), you can drill it out and retap it. If you can't do that yourself, take it to a machine shop for a small fee. I had already dropped the bracket when I drilled off the top of one of the allen caps - I just bolted it back up to the tunnel to do so. What a bitch taking it apart but now you know that much more about the sled.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm going back out into the garage after work to see what I can do.

Just weld a nut to the head of the stripped bolt and back it right out, works like a charm... :letsnow:

Exhaust Donuts

If you are doing this job, it makes sense to use copper donuts instead of stock. The copper will probably outlast the motor! Thistledoo on Snowest has them.
Don't know if he's on TY.

Thistle didnt want to pay for ads on TY when sledtoyz.com has them in stock and they are cheaper.
