There is about a foot more snow just north of my place, and I have been itching to get out on the trail. My lake is safe now as I checked it here yesterday, but we need more snow locally here for our trail system before they will be able to work them. Great base here but just north of here the rain we got last time round was all snow. The trail guide showed a section of trails open('green') in South River/Sundridge which is only 40 mins or so north of me, So Dano and I decided to head up for the afternoon.
I wanted to try my new ramps for the short jaunt and leave the trailer home. I was very surprised how well these alum ramps work with the heavy Winder. Simply put, drive on/off with ease. Makes for easy quick getaway.
With all the work on these sleds, and all posts about clutching, Bearings, belt life, and ON and ON, I just left all that behind the instant I squeezed the trigger today. My god these sleds are friggin awesome! Funny that i reset my default map to 240, and ran that early on and was just blown away after a long offseason. The new "transfer mod" has made my sled transfer like my 1200 did, I know its not for many here but for every knoll I came upon, this makes for incredible giggle factor! This sled launches hard off them now, even moreso with the wicked transfer. More to come on that.
Later I had to hit the flash to pass button up to 270, and totally forgot how SICK this 998 animal can be on trail. The instant spool at even just slight press of the flipper is exhilarating! The "music to my ears" BOV feedback through the CAI is addicting! I guess i just forgot how damn sick these sleds really are.
So all the "bad DNA" and worry of so many things, was instantly gone with that blast today. Swapped a few times with Dano and he felt the big power(from his 600r) and loved it. Those little doos sure are fun in the rougher stuff, the steering is so light! Gotta watch for that ski lift though, the Winder is dead nuts planted!
So far so good with belt, only 110kms or so today as the trails are barely opening, but all went well without a blow. The trails were groomed to a TEE around this area today, so it was well worth the drive. Hoping our trail system gets opening this week, and our lakes are pretty much all safe now.
I figured we just all need some good news, and just to remind the guys that havent gotten out yet, how damn fun these sleds are!

I'm curious what the "transfer mod" is, if you don't mind sharing?

I really like the ergonomics of the Ski-doo sleds and I like their build quality better than the SW. However, none of that matters once I squeeze the flipper on my RTX. The power is addicting and it certainly makes up for any other short comings the sled may have.
Ya sometimes I think damn it would be much easier with a doo, but then you mash the lever and say wow now I have a chubby.

Doo also has its issues. I am the only one in my group left riding a Yamaha. There are 2 800 Etecs and 2 850s, a 2017 Gade and a 2018 Back Country. Both of the 850s are randomly blowing belts usually after a long lake run. The Back Country had primary clutch roller damage and also needed a new spider at the end of its first season, the Gade also needs primary rollers and the clutches after 2 seasons are so dirty they look like they have 100,000 miles on them.
In their defence, the Doos really shine when playing off trail where nothing compares to them.

Have to agree with you Dan, they are a blast. And a handful with all that added power.
Also took mine for a spin yesterday, trailered about 1 hour from home. Trails were surprisingly well groomed with lots of smooth twisties and lots of straightaways. Best of all! My last garage primary clutch weight change seemed right on the money. Sore arms and shoulders this morning and loving it!!

Of course you can!
Max Spool 16 smm
Primary, stock spring with Dalton QAY 70, 1.9 gram weight for 71.9 total.
Secondary, stock spring, coil pocket had been machined 70 thou, Dalton 35/39 RA Helix set at 6/2
My primary was machined last year but does not seem to change clutch set ups when compared to others that have same tune.
If I stay with stock helix it will rev more, so less weight needed for that on mine.
They say everyone’s sled differs a bit on weight set ups.
My buds sled has same except for Max Spool 16 sm tune. No machining on clutches but higher lug track would be the most diff between them, and his is RTX-LE and mine is LTX-LE.
He added 2 grams to his Dalton’s, and set his 35/39 at 6/1 for much the same WOT revs.
If you want cheap, just add a washer to the tip of your stock weight by drilling the tip weight out and adding a washer and with new same size rivet. I got the same WOT revs with that and the added 35/39. Total was 73.8 - 74 grams on those total.

Thank you I have a Dalton 35/37 On hand anyway so I’ve been trying it with Thunder product orange Springs And Dalton weights that I think are 73.6 base empty , And I’m surprised Thunder product orange spring is only set on 40° and I’m still getting my RPMsOf course you can!
