Hot starting or not starting

Happend to me on the weekend. Saturday went for a short rip (1/2 hr ) on the lake temp got to 200 . There was very low snow conditions got into some snow dropped to 188. No warning light . Sunday same ride after overnight snow fall consistent 165 . How were your conditions??

I am glad I did not buy a Viper now, thought about it glad I steered away from a first year sled. Especially that this one which is more cat than Yam.

I left my baby at the dealer/doctor for the night. I'm sure they won't really be able to pin point it, but if they do great. Otherwise I guess I just fall into that yamaha guinea pig status and hope they at least use the info the dealer gives them off my sled for the greater good.

Yeah mine does same at idle for awhile. As long as your fan is kicking on 200 degrees is not that big of deal.

As usual, send it to the doctor and it acts like nothing is wrong. I guess I'll just document everything I can about it when it does it. Will probably take video on my phone if I think it's going to happen.

I noticed with mine that if I key on and crank right away it will roll for sometimes 5-10 seconds before starting.... If I key on, wait for the pump to cycle on and the dash to go into the normal "run" mode it fires instantly.

LOL! I understand if you are a brand loyal person I get that. But you have a very short memory if you think this is a bad roll out. I won't make this the size of a novel by going back to all the botched Yamaha roll outs just hit a few you should remember.

Lets start with,

1982 SRX 500 - yes they made several thousand and recalled them all and destroyed them as the crankshafts would grenade. A few are known to exist that were not returned. Last year for SRX for a while as this was a goof that was almost a name killer.

1998 SRX crankshaft recall, after the hiatus from the last SRX debacle...lol.

RX1 bad rings causing excessive oil consumption

Phazer ball joints literally falling out of suspension with as little as 276 miles (I had one by the way)

Phazer bad ECU causing sled not to start cold

Viper 2 stroke with botched head gasket causing burn down if ridden slow

I could go on but I won't. Please note I didn't list hot start issues or minor bugs just the barnburner ones.

Go ahead and bash and say this is all Cats fault, or look at the facts. For a first year sled this is a good rollout.

Lets not forget the 06 + Apex

Hand warmers that didn't work
Frozen fuel pump relays
Exhaust donuts and Y pipes BIG BIG $$ to replace
shredded bogey wheels
worn out suspension bushings with very low miles
inop grease zirks from bad factory welds
bad chain case, gaskets getting sucked in
track rub
severe darting
reverse linkage and freezing up easily
pre mature hyfax wear

Yep, and I skipped over Nytro and Phazer spindle wear issue because as annoyiing as it is in my opinion those are not serious issues like your engine exploding or refusing to start in the cold every time you try.

This has been my experience also. Patience! lol

This method was a MUST on my Phazer Turbo.

Just got off the phone with the dealer, he said yamaha IS aware of the issue with hot start and said to try loosening the throttle cable until you can freely slide a nickle between the flipper and throttle block. Also said yamaha recommends turning key on and waiting 4-5 seconds before cranking. Just things to try. Don't shoot the messenger. Lol

I mentioned the throttle cable adjustment in a diff post. HAVE to keep that adjusted.

Ive came to same conclusion. You turn key on wait for pump to cycle and then start. Few times Ive just cranked on it it would take a few roll overs before she would fire.

I don't know who said it in this thread but there's no such thing as a good first year roll out for any machine, snowmobile or otherwise that has chain case issues, loose clamps, leaking antifreeze, hard starting, no starting, engine misfires, P1338/1339 codes, broken shocks, dead clusters, cheap hardware and inconsistent quality. It's good looking, good riding MY1 junk is what it is. Gee, mine was made first thing on a Monday morning and it's a lemon, your's was made on a Friday and it runs great. That just bull crap.

I don't put up with it on a new car, new boat, new engine, new motorcycle, new anything that costs thousands of dollars and say to myself "it's been a good roll out because I didn't have any of these issues". It's what you pay for! These machines die in the woods and leave you stranded late at night and the machine won't be the only thing that's dead. Rev's Your Heart - Gag. Go spend some of those marketing dollars making sure you have the QC in place to back it up.
