Hot starting or not starting

just a long shot, but what about having dual pick ups? as long as I can remember Yamaha has never had a dual pick up on a machine.... and every other Yamaha I have ever had (with efi) has never had a problem starting, Could the second pick up be causing any issue here having the fuel bleed back into the tank? When you start the first pick up pulls fuel and the second one needs to re-prime its line?

Mine seems to actually start better hot if I just turn the key all the way to crank and do not even let the fuel pump prime or gauge power up. Could be a complete coincidence but that has worked the best for me. Regardless, mine has always started after some cranking, it just battles me once in a while...

I don't know who said it in this thread but there's no such thing as a good first year roll out for any machine, snowmobile or otherwise that has chain case issues, loose clamps, leaking antifreeze, hard starting, no starting, engine misfires, P1338/1339 codes, broken shocks, dead clusters, cheap hardware and inconsistent quality. It's good looking, good riding MY1 junk is what it is. Gee, mine was made first thing on a Monday morning and it's a lemon, your's was made on a Friday and it runs great. That just bull crap.

I don't put up with it on a new car, new boat, new engine, new motorcycle, new anything that costs thousands of dollars and say to myself "it's been a good roll out because I didn't have any of these issues". It's what you pay for! These machines die in the woods and leave you stranded late at night and the machine won't be the only thing that's dead. Rev's Your Heart - Gag. Go spend some of those marketing dollars making sure you have the QC in place to back it up.

This poor sled is probably the most over analyzed, over dissected, over criticized sled ever produced.
Yamaha people don't like it because of the Cat portion, Cat people don't like it because of the Yamaha portion.
The other guys don't like it because it's kicking their #*$&@.
Most of the issues I see are Yamaha QC/QA's fault.
I think the Yamaha QC/QA people on site may have allowed themselves to get distracted by their American counter parts/hosts and maybe gone out for a BEER after work or some other such silliness rather than working 18 hrs. and then sleeping at their desks.
This may have allowed quality to slip down almost to North American standards.

This is so true...... agree 100%
This sled is by far the best sled I have been on and I have owned and ridden so many. Where ever I go, is that the Yamacat? I have to laugh because you know what the next questions are going to be. Why this? Why that? I tell them they all have a track, an engine and skis, it's a snowmobile! The Yamaha guys hate the Cat parts, the Cat guys hate the engine. But....have they driven one? NO! Have they ever been away from their loyal brand? NO! It really is something the brand bashing when you go somewhere. Sometimes I feel like I am in high school with the "clicks" or poular and not popular groups.

I went to a race 2 weeks ago Saturday in Ontanogon. My girlfriend was standing next to some people that were by the fence watching the races. I pulled up behind everyone and a guy wearing a Polaris jacket started badmouthing the Viper and me. My girlfriend overheard and didn't tell me what he said untill after we got back to our place we were staying. The guy said "talk about a piece of junk, cat and yami parts together and heard they don't go over 75 mph." He just kinda made a sound in disgust. I started talking to him and was explaining what some of the guys were doing on the starting line and thought he was pretty cool. Shook my hand after that and we went back to riding.

Why do people have to be that way?

Ok, got off topic there......

I crank mine until mine is fully running. I notice a couple times it will fire then go down and fire up again. But I don't let off until it starts. No problems so far.

We have some no start cold, we have some no start hot, some have no issues.
The only conclusion is CAN'T BE THE ECU, AC did not write ECU programs for each sled.
The problem has to be in the peripherals, TPS, CPS, air box temp sensor, something is not giving proper information to the ECU. Who made the sensors? what parameters did they have for acceptance? 200 ohms + or - 10% versus 200 ohms + or - 25% is not the same sensor.

I here the same #*$&@ too , I just laugh and walk away !

One time a guy came up and said : I wouldn't turn it off because it won't start back up and laughed !

I said : oh it wouldn't , I laughed turned the key and she started right up !
Turned it off and laughed and said where did you hear that at and walked away and they stayed there and looked at it for 15 min after that never did go back out to talk to them .

I wish it was as easy as replacing a hose clamp however, we are dealing with ecu mapping problems and they aren't addressing it in a timely fasion. The season is half over and they haven't even admitted to having a problem yet. I love my viper but I need it to reliably start every time.

I don't know how it can be ECU mappingif it doesn't affect all of the machines, like it did the 2007 Phazers when they brought out an updated ECU.

Why do people have to be that way?

I ride high country. As I was unloading it a guy with two Cats pulled up next to us. We talked a little and he said something about the Viper being heavy, so I asked him to lift it from the front. He braced himself like he was lifting an Apex and popped it right up. He was astounded it was so light, and that is what I hear the most "that heavy sled".

But yeah, the chat from these forums even the bull$#@t from non Viper owners is starting to become fact whether it is or not. Sad.

.

Checked a couple things on ours and have tried a few different things but nothing seems to make a difference. Only thing that makes it light is a little throttle.

If the throttle is making a difference could it be the tps?? I mean the tolerances between sensors in different machines, would explain why some do it and some don't... just a though... I know on my 09 Grizzly that was a "patch" fix from Yamaha to correct the hot startup/not idling problem.... Go in threw the dash and check tps values, then adjust the sensor accordingly

Sounds most likely to me, TPS out of adjustment could cause this issue.

Ours always starts quick hot or cold, somebody post the directions again on how to check TPS through the gauges and I will check ours for a baseline.

.

To check TPS turn on gauge, press and hold bottom two buttons until it says diagnostic screen, scroll through with left buttons until you see DIAG, press select on the right side, then TPS should be the first screen that pops up. Mine read 0% 0.6v throttle off and 78% 3.8v at WOT.

shouldn't WOT be 100%?

Just checked dads LTX, his reds 3.8v at 80% WOT. I would think WOT should be 100% also however, TPS is a reading of the throttle body not the flipper.
