It's good looking, good riding MY1 junk is what it is. Gee, mine was made first thing on a Monday morning and it's a lemon, your's was made on a Friday and it runs great. That just bull crap.
I don't put up with it on a new car, new boat, new engine, new motorcycle, new anything that costs thousands of dollars and say to myself "it's been a good roll out because I didn't have any of these issues". It's what you pay for! These machines die in the woods and leave you stranded late at night and the machine won't be the only thing that's dead. Rev's Your Heart - Gag. Go spend some of those marketing dollars making sure you have the QC in place to back it up.
I like everything that was said here. I want to add the throttle cable slack does not effect this already tried that. Also neither does how long you wait to start it or crank it right away.
Also I mentioned before there is no tors on this sled. If you hold the throttle open and crank it over the sled will literally light and take off. First time I did it was at a railway crossing where the trail crossed a small country road. Came up stopped looked blipped the gas and it died. Went to start nada...tried a few times thought oh well try holding the throttle a bit.
Hold it at 1/2 start cranking after 5 or so seconds it lights and bam gone! Across the road! Walked over to it got on and rode off into the sunset. Now if we do this start method (4 times last Saturday) we use two guys. One holds the brake with both hands the other does the starting.

This sled has a version of "TORS" that is not exactly like Yamahs but it most certainly has this protection. Hold throttle flapper the same way we always checked TORS and accelerate and prove it to yourself
Then adjust your throttle cable.
Correct. It definitly has a throttle over ride. No system is meant to stop sled when you are engaging the throttle. It is designed to stop sled if cable or something down the line from throttle sticks.

Mine does not start right up occasionally. Yesterdays ride = 4 starts, 1st 3 it fired right up. Last start did not fire up. Purposely keep trying 4 times and would not start. Blipped or snapped the throttle and it fire right up. Looked at throttle before blipping it and it was not stuck, had a bit of play. Not sure what blipping it does but it has worked every time.

I tried setting up the throttle just as my dealer told me and it still doesn't hot start. I'm feeling like I'm being led on a wild goose chase until they actually figure out the real problem.

What have you got for K/Miles.
My Wife's was no start cold when new, then was no start hot at about 150 K, now after a good weekend has 500 K now more starting issues.

I was told by a Yamaha dealer in the UP this last weekend that the hot start issue/P1338 code is caused by a bad battery or low battery voltage. Then went on to tell me that the stator/electrical system on the viper will not re-charge the battery as you ride... Brilliant! I guess once you get it running for the day its best to keep it running or it might never restart, wonder why my Nytro never did that... When I explained that my battery was on a maintainer for 2 days previously he said that my charger must be broken! The mystery is solved, LOL. Pretty much made me lose all respect for that dealer.

That's balonie all of us riding are having no voltage issues and 3 of us no hot or cold start issues. Mine was on a tender a week before the ty ride and got the p 1338 and 1339 code and the system does charge the battery

Yes, mine charges at 14.5. If that's not enough to charge this battery then we have more issues than we thought. These half a$$ shade tree mechanics that get hired at some dealerships don't belong within a mile of a wrench or sled for that matter. They are grasping at straws trying to keep us quiet for another day. Instead they should be on the phone with yamaha asking what the fix is and when it will be available.

Oh, one more thing as long as I'm ranting on, lol. If they truly feel this is a battery issue don't you think we would all have brand new batteries waiting at the dealers for us to swap out. These guys are all just blowing smoke.

This poor sled is probably the most over analyzed, over dissected, over criticized sled ever produced.
Yamaha people don't like it because of the Cat portion, Cat people don't like it because of the Yamaha portion.
The other guys don't like it because it's kicking their #*$&@.
Most of the issues I see are Yamaha QC/QA's fault.
I think the Yamaha QC/QA people on site may have allowed themselves to get distracted by their American counter parts/hosts and maybe gone out for a BEER after work or some other such silliness rather than working 18 hrs. and then sleeping at their desks.
This may have allowed quality to slip down almost to North American standards.

YES! WHAT HE SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friends with Polaris Pro sent out a message to our group to change cheap compression clamp on water outlet on small hose on head as they ALL fail eventually. Fix was to put a real hose clamp on....yet they quietly fix these MANY poo issues and say little. I say once again, this first year rollout is MUCH better than the Nytro, RX1, and ESPECIALLY the 2007 Phazer.

I wish it was as easy as replacing a hose clamp however, we are dealing with ecu mapping problems and they aren't addressing it in a timely fasion. The season is half over and they haven't even admitted to having a problem yet. I love my viper but I need it to reliably start every time.
