How many vipers with starters going bad?

It's alright to say that Yamaha will cover the starter repair as long as they have the parts.
I hope they're not still on back order like last season.
I got lucky with my fix as my dealer really went over and above for me but I've heard of others that lost a lot trail time waiting for back order parts.

True. I think I may talk my dealer into having those parts in stock. Starter,Idler,Stator,Flywheel Anything else?

Yeah me too.
I've had one failure and I'm just afraid it's going to happen again.
The sled really do start and idle like crap and I fear it's just a matter of time.

I just keep the key held until it starts and I'm hoping for the best

Well let's hope Yamaha does something for that otherwise all we can do is keep a 100% batt and starting system, keep key turned till running and if really running bad get a PCV or EVO tune to clean up that idle and start.

Just got my sled fixed under warranty.
The sled was a year out of warranty and they still covered it. The mechanics said that the rep told them any with starter issues will be fixed regardless of warranty has expired or not.
Also they went to a seminar and the new 16 updated motor the problem has supposedly been fixed and there's an update coming for the rest of us.
Since yours was getting repaired did they do the update to it.

The Voo Doo shocks made me laugh. Not even dealer installed like they are supposed to be. Mine came in a " Do it yourself kit " box.

I haven't even got my voodoo shocks yet. Back orderd!

I'm not puttin them on anyway.

You know this chassis flexes way more than Apex so if these work it should work better on the Viper. That is if the guys who tune the shocks weren't involved in the dampners. Anyone want to sell their kit? I would at least like to test them.

I highly doubt this is the problem. If I were to guess, I'd say start-up is too rich. My Viper sounds like it is back firing on every start up. It even blew the muffler apart once. I hope they figure this out soon.

"I just heard last night at a snowmobile show,

Seems as though Cat and Yamaha have finally figured what the issue is.
With the battery being under the seat of these sleds and the positive cable being nearly 6' long they sized the wire wrong from the factory. The longer the run the larger the wire needs to be to carry the volts needed to start these 1049cc motors. From time to time the voltage is a tad too low causing the motor to kick back snapping the drive rings on the starters.
SO, there SHOULD be an update coming out soon to upgrade these 7000s from what I was told last night. Unless it was a made up story and if so it's a good one because it makes perfect sense to me."

Well I got the word from my dealer this week ! There is no re-flash coming this year! Us viper owners now have to follow a proper starting procedure ! Turn key on wait until dash is lit totally now crank and hold until sled is fully started !! Do not turn off sled and try to start it right away always wait for dash to be fully lit ! Yamaha knows there is a problem and will fix sled even when warranty is over ??? I think I'm going to try this for the year and see what the feed back is on the evo flash for next year . Kinda disappointed about the way Yamaha is dealing with this. i think evo could be selling a lot of flashes in the near future .
