im having trouble with sled cutting out on take off. Saw once for a second code 84 that indicates throttle position sensor. I can’t find any info on how to get into dash diagnostics to retrieve codes. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Code 84 is TORS activation. The TPS may be responsible but other things to check first are proper operation of the throttle switch and cable free play.

To go onto diagnostic mode, push and hold the Select and Reset buttons and turn the key to RUN. Keep holding until the display shows diag. Then push and hold for 2 sec. the select button to go to the first mode which is the TPS readout.

In diagnostics it starts out at 15 closed throttle then drops to 8or 9 at 1/4 throttle at 1/2 throttle it’s around 25 and and climbs to 97 on wide open. Is it safe to assume that the tps malfunctioning. 1/4 throttle is where it stumbles you can drive through it. Holding it at a 1/4 throttle it is erratic just tried it again seen as low as 5 and jumps around till 1/2 throttle or so where it settles out at 18ish and then climbs smoothly to 97. What do does anyone think. TPS sensor pooched?

The numbers should climb steadily, so it appears faulty.

Sounds exactly like mine was - I would say replace it. Get a new O-Ring to go with it. The screw that secures it takes a T25 Torx driver bit.

And be ready to mortgage your house for a new one. They ain't cheap. Part #5BE-85885-10-00. $346CAD. US seems to be around $200USD but there's the shipping. Check at Megazip.net. There's also Port Yamaha that might be able to do do a better price.

I agree that is a lot but I always look at it this way ... My sled has a new OEM part and thanks to TY no time wasted trailering to a dealer, picking it up, wondering if the labor rate was fair.

I paid $134 for mine from Partzilla. After spending $200 for new coils that I didn't need, and almost buying a new wire harness that I didn't need (it got back ordered till mid April, so I canceled it), $134 seemed pretty damn reasonable. When I added the 2 oil filters that I'll need next fall, I got free shipping.

Funny, it was on Partzilla I looked at for US pricing (actually $181USD).

It's not being cheap. I hate getting raped for a part which is basically just a spring loaded rheostat and that they have a monopoly on. That is all. That's why I look at all options. Sometimes we don't have a choice due to time constraints but barring that, look beyond normal channels. And for something like this part, I wouldn't go with aftermarket even if it was available although the OEM part didn't last neither.

Your '09 GT calls for p/n 5BE-85885-10-00 at $181
My wife's '07 GT is p/n 8GC-85885-00-00 at $134

And Partzilla did not have it in stock, they had to get it from a Yamaha warehouse in CA, so it's not like they were unloading an outdated p/n at a discounted price.

I wonder if there actually is a difference...

From the parts diagrams, the newer one has a wire whereas the 07 version has just a plug. And an additional part #25 on the newer one. Looks like the throttle body changed.

Well at least there is a difference. Must be a pretty impressive wire for an additional $47

Similar sensor for my '08 Nytro is only $72...

Nobody ever said sledding was cheap. Ordered tps this morning. Unfortunately we’re about done riding up here three weeks early than normal. Be good to go for the fall.
Very much appreciate all the discussion on this site. It’s always great when stuff f’s up and I’m not the only one that it’s happened to. Like my dealer usually says “never seen that before “ been reading for two years finally signed up after three days of searching and reading about diagnostics on the phazer but nobody explaining how to get there. All you have to do is ask right. Glad I did. Thanks for the help to all that chimed in.
