I got sick and tired of the ice build-up around the Turbo and teamed up with my buddy kimoajaj here on the forum to make a block off plate..
Its designed to fit on the turbo support bar on the MCX turbo kits.
It turned out pretty sweet, and I got to test it in some serious powder this weekend, and saw almost no ice buildup at all. It also seems to get hot enough on the upside of the plate so that no ice or snow stays on the turbo / wastegate hoses and so.
Here are some pics for you. And if anyone is interested I'll take some measurements and post em up a bit later. The plate is 3 mm aluminum.
Plate laying on the garage floor, left side goes under the support bar, and the hole is for the muffler. We later realised that the hole could have been a little smaller. But no biggie.
Here you can see the angle on the bend for where the plate mounts to the tunell.

Thanks, we are gonna make another one next week for a buddys 08 MTX turbo.. He is also seeing some bad ice buildup (Not as bad as mine was.. but still..)
This plate is by far the best and cheapest mod i have done to the sled, and i highly recommend it to anyone who has problems with ice buildup.

I guess we should make a plate for my Nytro aswell? Dont want the TCW or hose to wastegate to freeze up
Does anyone have some opinions wether there should be some more holes in the plate to make more snow hit the turbo to cool it down?
Or?

I might have come up with the best solution yet for the tunnel icing issue... I'm installing an aluminum plate along the tunnel protectors. I know your saying "that's not new" But what I'm going to do is use adhesive to attach a cut out Crazy Carpet to the aluminum plate. This plastic will be adhered and riveted to the plate and through the protectors. The Crazy Carpet can be left a little wider and trimmed so it can seal against the tunnel walls. Not only non stick but they come in Blue & Red!! It's my summer job.. Keep you posted.

Well that should work for people running the stock track.. The MTX does not have the tunnel protectors, and people wanting a bigger lugged track have to remove the protectors to make it fit..
Also, in Europe the XTX comes with a 1.75 backcountry stock, so for us it will not work at all..
But it sure sounds like a good idea for those running stock tracks..

My dealer explained to me that 1.75 can be run with the protectors in place? I know it looks close! I heard they have a 1.6 track out now that fits perfect..

I seem to remember that both heat exchanger protectors and tunell protectors had to be removed to fit the 1.75" track on my sled..
But i may be wrong.. If you ask in the Nytro general section you'll get the answer.

Dime, Are you still running the block off plate? If so would you be able to get me some measurements?

Yeah im still running it. My local dealer borrowed the plate and produced a lot of them. They are installing them on almost every turbo nytro they sell.
I dont have any measurements anymore, but i'll try to look into when i get back home from the mountains.

Sounds good. I would ask about shipping but I would think that would be a little spendy..

A couple of weeks ago i witnessed what eventually happens when you ride without a block off plate..
I suddenly saw a destroyed tcv valve and a teared off vacuum hose hanging down in the boggie on a buddies mcx nytro. No good...
For those of you still interested in the measurements i can get them for you in september/october when i start wrenching on the sled again. Just remind me.
