If I go through one more set of sliders I swear......

So i under stand the frustration here, but bigger wheels will not work on the 07-09 RTX, they have the proaction skid (like the nytro) not the mono, bigger whells will not work because the two inside wheels need to have the 6005 bearing in them, all bigger wheels have the 6205 or compairable.

I have almost 3000 miles on my set on the sled... they wear down to just about the line, maybe 1/8-1/16 of an inch... then stop... I have 9400 miles on my 07 rtx with stock skid, and the slides wear down to this point within the first 500 miles... kinda scary... but once they hit that point they stop, unless you heat and melt them.

the trick that needs to be done, if somebody can find a 5.35" wheel with a 6005 bearing... its the answer... i have been searching and NO after market company makes them.... people have put bigger wheel on the outside but the your 2 inside wheels done touch and the force of your front shock ends up bending your cross shaft for the shock and wheels... (tryed this)...

now maybe your extention kit is adding to this problem, you may be able to install a 5.35" wheel on the outside where this "wear spot" is happening as it will not affect your front inner wheels...

now on my 40th i installed bigger wheels all around and have 2500 miles this winter on the set of slides and there is over half left... AWESOME!!

welcome to the yammi wheels!!!

Big wheels equal long life

I installed Kimpex 5.35" wheels on my Apex and added two extra wheels to the outside rails at where the rear swing arm mounts with great hyfax wear life. Have rode in lots of minimal snow conditions this year, about 2200 miles so far and only one set of hyfax this year. I will attach a pic showing the extra wheel location.

I run ice age rails with a polaris hyfax - the polaris hyfax is probably 2x the thickness, lasts much longer.

No hyfax problems for me.

Hey big dog... yes i did the same on my 08 40th... but cant do this on the 07-09 RTX... proaction skid... completely different!

I had the pro-active suspension in my Vector and I was able to mount larger wheels with wider bearings by modding the mounts. Why can't you do this?

Grimm..... did you grind the aluminum sleeve that fits inside the inner race??? Last time i had this apart i was looking real close at this but the wheel width of the kimpex wheels i had were wider that the stockers and was having some issues with them rubbing the track lugs... what wheels did you use and with what bearings???

And i didnt know the vector came with a Proaction rear skid??? thought it was always the mono??

Guys,

I just stopped worrying about it. THey wear to a point and almost stop. Just recently, last 2 weeks, I had put on new slides, rode ~400 miles, almost wore down to the line.

So leaving on a 1700 mile trip, left them alone. We rode all conditions, nice snow, frozen roads, open gravel logging rodes for yes more than 1700 miles =========> guess what. Now worn to the line but not through anywhere. It did this last year as well.

They wear fast to a point and stop.

I will begin each year with a new pair but will not replace again til the next season. Took me years to blieve this but it is true.

My two cents.

I think my original problem has been missed. I am getting 100 miles on my sliders and they are shot. Not to the wear line but right through. And they are 'mushroomed' out.
Even loosening the track and adding the marginal snow kit didn't seem to help

Ok this is seriously rediculous. I am on my 4 set of sliders since I bought this sled. Under a 1000 miles.
Tighten the track back up.

I have removed the skid, added the marginal snow kit, loosened the track as much as possible without it ratcheting and have been riding in great snow conditions.
Track too loose will make it worse, the rest won't do anything.

I even broke this last set in driving on a packed lake trail to warm them the drive in powder to rapidly cool them.
So... you tried to reduce wear by wearing them?

PLASTIC pal, there is NO BREAKIN for plastic!!!!

I was going to take the plunge and buy a ZX2 but I hear some guys complaining about slider wear there too.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Here's what's happening;
You need SNOW to lubricate the sliders, otherwise they MELT.
This problem is created/exacerbated by tall lugs on the track and poor snow conditions.

Try getting sliders that are made out of a material that melts at a higher temperature or offers less friction -- i.e. GRAPHITE.

You can also try a shorter track. By short, I mean LUG height rather than length. Try something like 0.7 or 0.5 -- sliders should last about forever then.

And of course, it is a snowmobile -- designed to operate in SNOW. Not ice, not pavement, not rocks, not mud.... SNOW.

Lol. Ok thanks. I think.
Ill clear a couple things up though. I live in an area with lots of snow. I don't drive it on the highway. I have a truck for that lol. I am using the same sliders that my buddy used riding the same distance on the same trails yet he has no noticeable wear.and the con-fusion I ride with has over 5000 miles on his originals and we ride together. The company that makes the track extension said run it loose. I'm not sure how running it tight will create less friction.

The earlier models came with the Pro-active.
I removed some material (1.5mm) with a lathe to accept the wider bearing. This centers the idler wheel between the internal track lugs, eliminating rubbing. Now, the wheel I've used is the Kimpex pro idler, which is a marginally wider wheel than stock, which potentially could rub against the inner track lugs, however my wheels are holding up great after 2000km. If you're not comfortable running a wider wheel, then the Skidoo 135mm diameter wheel is the route to go.

There are several threads on idler wheels and sliders, just try a search and you'll see. Here is the best one that explains the mod required for the wheel mounts: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... highlight=

I get 3000+ miles easy out of a set of slides after i installed slydog bogie wheels on the front..

They are soo much bigger and take sooo much pressure of the rails that the sled will actually roll like a cart if you get off and push it

check out my thread on 135mm wheels with 2 bolt mounts and some extra marginal wheels..

I have near 1700 miles this season so far on my setup and the sliders have NOT WORN ONE BIT... they look NEW!!!!......the wheels are large enough they dont touch!...best setup ive had yet!

Where are the wearing? and where is your limiter strap set? i got 2000+ miles on my stock set on my RTX. Took some time to find the sweet spot but it can be done.

Looks like you are getting tons of advise.. If you still have the stock track in with every third window closed, Get rid of it. Too much rolling resistance. You need a fully clipped track so it will slide nice and easy. This will help your slides. extra wheels will also help.
