Great info guys, what would you recommend for a 250lbs rider (without gear on)? Do you think the 160# spring will be too stiff for this size rider? 2015 Viper MTX 153 with MCX 190 kit, way too heavy steering and very hard to get any ski lift.

Good question. I am 165 pounds and my 135 pound spring is half way through adjustment. I am going to order the 160 spring for mine but have not yet. I hate to suggest things I have not tested, but suspect you are right about the 160 spring. Please post results here if you do. BTW you don't have to remove shock to change spring, just unbolt top spin down adjuster and change...took me less than 15 minutes in the parking lot.

I'm 280, put about 800 miles on my XTX, 90 lbs in the front shocks with the stock spring, C&A XTX skis with dual runners. Seems easy to steer for me, coming off a nytro. Don't think I'll change anything.

As I said some that like the Nytro probably won't want to do this. If that's the case ride it the way YOU want not what others like.
But for me the light power steering feel is almost a must.

what do you guys suggest for a 14 xtx se. 280 pound rider.,i felt the suspension was to stiff al around and tried all setting stock and never did find a happy spot. put snow trackers on it and cured heavy steering. i want it to ride like a couch and have decent transfer. i also put anti stab kit on and back country 1 and 3/4 track

60 to 65 pounds front, 100 to 120 in the back and most importantly change the front skid shock spring. turbo800 earlier in this thread used a zbroz spring, I have not tested that one....turbo800 can you give us an update on that spring please?

I just changed out my wimpy 110# spring to a 160# spring and took it for a quick blast have to say the sled rides better and steering is way better. I have 75# of air up front and 135# in the rear. The sled even sits better when parked. I will take it out for a good ride on sunday and report back.

I am very close to buying a viper and leaning towards XTX model so when you do your report on Sunday please let us know where your limiter strap position is and where your center shock spring preload setting is as well as your weight. I would be interested as well as I resemble your remarks and am trying to decide which viper to get.

I put the 145 pound 8 inch spring from Zbros and set it just past contact on the adjuster. Works perfect for a 165 pound rider.

I'm sorry I did not get out on the weekend. We have next to no snow and I would have to drive 2 hours to find some. I will try next weekend.

So far, I'm happy with the spring change. Its hard to tell exactly how much was gained though. I had Slydog skis on, and they work a b*tch to turn! Cranking the spring preload back up to stock elevation made them more manageable. The 8" ski also made it hard to sidehill in minimal fluffy snow, so I went back to stock. They are much better and easier to turn. I could probably back off the preload now. The sled does love to trench, but I can't tell if it has too much preload on the center track shock spring, or if this Powerclaw 2.6 is a POS!
If I end up keeping this sled, the track has to go. It seems to hook up hard when there's something firm below to grab onto, but in the powder it sucks! Coming downhill is even worse, its like a toboggan sled. I can go 3 times slower downhill on my dad's '14 Doo Summit XM with the Camo Challenger track!
