Is it ok to warm the engine up with the clutch off? Or is that bad for the motor? ThanksThe best way I have found to get the stub shaft out without ruining the seal is to take it out after the engine is up to temp and warm. I use a long heavy socket on the factory bolt as a slide hammer. Comes right out easily. Going in is pretty straightforward, the outer housing pushes the seal in nice and square, just make sure its all nice and clean.
Don't forget to clean and use green loctite on the bearing housing to outer bearing surfaces if you've not done that previously, this keeps the shaft from moving inward if you do blow a belt. Bolts get torqued to 8.7 ft lbs, not 15 ft. lbs on the stub shaft. No loctite stated in the manual either, just clean and dry.

Should be just fine to warm the engine to get the stub shaft out.

Interesting, I just removed my stubshaft on my 2024, and it looks like they put Yamabond in 2 places before assembly.
One spot was actually hindering the seating of the assembly.
I don't remember that when I took my 2018 apart....(that one came out easy)
And it was a BEAR to get out.

The Yamabond is from the case halves.
Did you warm the engine prior to removal and remove it while warm? Removing it while engine is at full temp is your friend.

I heated up the area with a commercial heat gun. I have the hood off, installing my gps.The Yamabond is from the case halves.

It started out easy, more heat and it popped out.

The biggest thing is to heat the case and the seal up so it come out easier. Easiest way is to pull out with engine having been at operating temps for a while.

Someone mentioned this already but in case a person doesn't know...
The Stub Shaft is indexed on the end of the crankshaft through spline match up and will only go on when matched.
I would suggest figuring out the indexed position before packing the splines with grease so assembly goes smoothly.

Just did mine warmed up the engine like you said. I fashioned a slide hammer using an old clutch bolt an a 5lb weight from my weight set. Came right out. Worst part about it is getting the damn clutch off. One of these times I’m gonna had a heart attack lol.The biggest thing is to heat the case and the seal up so it come out easier. Now I’m gonna green locktite the main bearing into the housing and press the knock out ring in and reassemble. Thanks for the tips!

Anyone know the torque specs for the 4 small retainer bolts for the stub shaft?

Thanks Bob. Wish you would have posted that 4 days ago. Hahaha. Can you imagine the games I played. Exactly as you say....grease hides the difference in splines. Rotate clockwise, counter clockwise. Kept asking myself, " WTF is holding me up "Someone mentioned this already but in case a person doesn't know...

Pinnin' it!
What’s the verdict on grease? Half the package? Or all of it?
