Nothing wrong with trying it as long as it has no adverse effects. I had mine apart just under 2,000 miles to replace jackshaft bearings but didn't see any noticeable wear on that bushing. The only problem I saw was the rubber damper for the reverse gear was in pieces.

Are these bushing failures on turbo sleds. I know the turbo sleds have had wobble bearing issues that don't normally show up with a NA engine.

No. I have had wear in as little as 2500mi. Replace bushing every year. Have seen some Sidewinders with no wear at all. Coating fully intact with over 3000mi. They have 15 wide chain. If oil doesn't solve it I will switch to Winder gear and chain possibly or just keep replacing bushing. Are these bushing failures on turbo sleds. What lube do you run in the chain case? It would be interesting to see if there is a flow issue related to the lube being used.

I am currently running Amsoil synthetic 75-90 with some Lucas oil treatment. I will be checking it when I drain the oil this fall. It will be @2500 miles since chain case rebuild. Total mileage of sled is 8000

I've been running Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90. I didn't see any wear yet but will check it again at the end of the season.

Where does one locate these bushings?

Bought one from Taylor or someone. Now I just buy whole gear and drive it out and install in my 25t gear. Made a aluminum stepped driver. Works like charm and whole gear is cheaper than bushing. Someone said old cats offered it separate need to look into that.Where does one locate these bushings?

You must be buying a stock Yamaha gear and getting the bushing put of that I assume, because the gears I priced out are 199 for just the top gear

Right. Actually a Cat gear. Asked them for the cheapest gear. I believe I pay about $20.You must be buying a stock Yamaha gear and getting the bushing put of that I assume, because the gears I priced out are 199 for just the top gear
Here is pic of gear and driver I use to remove and install bushing. Along with one I took out last spring.

I have found a few sources for bronze bushings of this size, I wonder if they would last longer?

I dont believe so. Its not really the coating being gone thats the issue its the tapered wear in the bronze under it. Coating being gone is just a good indicator the wear is there. I was thinking a DLC coated bushing but every once in a while a soft shaft shows up and that DLC might dig into it.I have found a few sources for bronze bushings of this size, I wonder if they would last longer?
