I had that muffler and was ticketed in NY for it. Officer knew right away it was not stock as it idles a lot louder than stock. Lucky I was able to beat the ticket. But I also sold the muffler and am doing a stock muffler flash for next season. In my opinion there is no muffler modded or otherwise that compares to just how quiet the stocker is. Had the stock muffler flashes had real world testing on them last season I would have went that route right out of the gate. Just one guys opinion, hope it helps.R u saying that you recommend it ?

To add to my last post I personally loved the sound and did not find it too loud. But I also don't want to worry about a ticket again, only reason I went back to stock muffler.

I never realized how quiet my stock SW was, until I swapped with my buddies Apex.
I loved the way my Apex sounded. IMO, it is much louder than my SW, but it is stock, so they allow it.

? I have a stock muffler tune now and if I want to just put a different muffler on would I be ok to do so or do I have to reflash but I still may reflash it a bigger tune eventually and thanks for all your information on the siteThanks Ben! I've been very happy with the SQ and with all the debate on what's quiet and what's too loud, seeing it so close to stock dB levels (at least in these 2 tests) confirmed what I thought/perceived last year - I couldn't tell a difference between the SQ and my (very) limited time with the stocker in noise (difference in quality and power potential is a totally different story). I'll recommend the SQ without hesitation to anyone who asks. I haven't heard the TurboForce in person but I think you're using a similar core to OSP and I did hear that at idle and it was definitely louder, but didn't seem too loud (my opinion).
Dave will be sending me his Hindle exhaust to test and I'm thinking I will enlist some help to work the app/dB meter (so my average readings are correct) while I'm on the sled's throttle and re-test all of them in the same day, but also test at 5000 rpm and maybe full throttle for a second. I'll likely take the belt off to avoid all the track noise. So having said that - do you think it's ok to pin the throttle for 1-2 secs with no belt with the PowerTrail/CAI tune you just sent me?
Thanks, Art

Stock muffler tunes are for stock mufflers only. The sled will run too lean with a free flowing muffler and a stock muffler tune.

How about a tuned for mod stock muffler, that I currently have,if I simply just installed a bone stock muffler with that tune I now have,do I need to retune it? Its is a max 16 tune for a mod stock muffler that I am currently running, but at times it can still be very loud, can I simply replace w/stock muffler?

The Max Spool 16 tune (3 bar) is the same for both SM and SMM, and with or without CAI.
Saw that noted on a post this past winter by TD.
It was on one of the Max Spool 16 posts this past season!
So if you go to a bone stock muffler it won’t matter.

I looked into to my set up for a while before I did it. I have the stock modded muffler from TD and I am very happy with it. They changed the inlet and outlet along with the guts to 2.5 inch. I run the 3 tune with the dash flash and all the stuff to go with it. My max power is max spool 17. I was glad to be able to test drive a sled with the TD super quiet. It was louder than I wanted for me at cruising and WFO mode. The decimal test only showing 2 decimals difference is very surprising to me cause its much louder in reality. Also I liked reusing the stock insulation and heat shield so it looks stock! Sounds better than stock upto 50 or 60 mph. After that it all wind noise. Great job Ben with your SMM.

Thank you. You are correct in saying it's more than just 2db.I looked into to my set up for a while before I did it. I have the stock modded muffler from TD and I am very happy with it. DB reading can be a bit misleading. That's because our ear is more sensitive to certain frequencies.
Any straight through mufflers will have high levels of LOW hz / low frequency noise but fairly low high frequency noise level.
While a stock muffler or baffle type muffler typically have higher mid to high frequencies but lower LOW frequency.
Now the low frequency is what most people refer to as "drone".
The super quiet for example is about the quiestest straight through muffler available currently. Because of the bigger body and more time to dissipate the noise.
But it can't compare in quietness to a TD stock modified muffler or a Stock muffler with baffles.
Of course baffled muffler are more restrictive and don't make as much HP as a straight through style muffler.
So there is a choice to make.

The Decibal Scale is exponential.
70db can be TWICE as loud as 60db. And 80db can be TWICE as loud as 70db.
So 2db can sound A LOT louder.

The Stock modded ones are louder than stock by a good bit, I've heard them all and nothing is as quiet as stock. The Hurricane baffled trail muffler gets loud after a while for me too, I swear mine has gotten louder. It's louder this season than it was last season anyway. Can hear the difference next to my buddy's new one. I use earplugs with it now.
I may just go to the stock muffler and tune bundle next season. The noise just isn't worth it with the power being made on the stock muffler tunes.

I cut open a couple of stock mufflers, mine included, and removed some of the baffling. To be honest, there really isn't very much in there compared to most mufflers I've opened up. I left inlet and outlet the same. Most don't notice any difference in sound, but it is slightly louder than stock. I find the stock too quiet and any aftermarket a little too loud.
So it is a nice compromise and a pleasing sound. It sounds especially nice slowing up for corners under engine braking.

I seriously doubt you tried a td one...
They are very quiet hard to tell the difference unless side by side... In snow you hear track noise at speed over 20mph nothing else.
