A properly dialed in Apex will run ski to ski with any properly dialed in 800 E-Tec to 1,000 and than the Apex will pull away. I did it and watched it This year over and over again at the weenie roast (biggest lake race gathering in the US). An Apex responds to set up better than most sled's.

Allen was faster with the CK but our Mono was quicker. We could never get the CK to 60' like the mono so we never changed over.
I remember when the 700 class was all blue one year and all green the next..which is when we sold our SRX and bought the improved Viper...it took the cat guys awhile to get the improved twins to work but they ended up with a huge weight break and that ended the reign of the tripples...
Sorry for the high jack guys....
The CK doesn't transfer like the Mono!

My 12 XTX will outrun a 2010.5 800 ETEC that is geared, piped and clutched very well. Start to finish, on rock hard RR grade. I can't do it on ice, I'm only studded mildly, but it's only a big box of studs from being out front every time on ice. XTX is bone stock and the Doo is a strong runner for sure. Traction wins the race here, when equal, Apex every time.

From what I read here no one losses a race. lol
The question is what is a race? In my eyes a race has a start and finish point. In 660 to a 1000 feet the etec will be hard to beat. I'm talking about an etec in the right guys hands. Beyond that point the etec simply can't over come the 9 to 10 mph advantage the apex has with the higher reving motor.

A lot of these guys have drank too much blue koolaid. I have been riding Yamaha for 10 years. The only reason I still ride Yamaha is because I do a lot of high mile saddle bag trips in Quebec in the middle of nowhere and the Etec engine is too big of a question mark for me. If I only rode in my home state of VT I would love an 800 Etec.
IMO there are way to many variables to drag racing to say one is faster or quicker than the other. Hell my last Apex had a shot Cobra track on it and my buddies 600 Etec would beat me by a nose to 80. I put a new track on and it wasn't even close after that. If you want to determine which one is faster run them both with the same weight rider and same amount of studs. Run em once and then switch lanes and do it again.
Why can't we all agree that they are likely close enough in a race that trading wins is possible.

I thought maybe your rpm=mph calculator needed to be re-calibrated when you calculated that the Apex should be 9-10 mph faster than thejtssrx said:From what I read here no one losses a race. lol

I have lost plenty races in my life infact the sled that gave us the most trouble (among the what looked to be trail sled's) was A new 800 RR Cat. Don't know the guy so I have no idea if or what was done to the sled but the rider was 125-150 LB to my 225 and friends 260 but he was putting a good sled or two on us by 1/4 mi. Maybe a race to you is 660' to 1,000' because that's all the farther you can hang? Sanctioned ice drag races may be mostly 660' but lake racing, I hardly ever see anything end at 1,000'.jtssrx said:From what I read here no one losses a race. lol

An 800 E-Tec is what it is and it has it's good point's and just like anything else bad as well.
So to come in to a Yamaha site and call the Doo the sled to have over an Apex is sure to put some on the defensive side. Snowmobiling is nothing but personal preferences. You have rode both and prefer the Doo. I have rode both and love my Apex and that's all it is.

Remember if some on goes by you at walking speed you will think you got your a$$ handed to you and that is 2 to 3 MPH. 10 MPH would be a total embarrassment.

You may get vid's of a Doo beating an Apex by a small margin in a short race but it will take you a while to find one of a Doo pulling away and continuing to WALK away like in the vid above. LOLjtssrx said:evil eagle said:Here's my take on the 800 etecs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxPtwJURuqI

The one issue with the etec for drag racing is that when its gets hot from something like drag racing, is it gets very inconsistent, but like Jason said, in the right hands they can be strong and can take the inconsistency out. In stock form, the results get very scewed.
I believe the Apex will beat it, once it gets broke in and install some studs as the Apex requires traction to show its potential...

The one thing a lot of you are forgetting is these are not race sleds. These are trail sleds so the chest thumping I'm reading is very funny becuase not one of our sleds would be competitive against anything that is setup to race only.
When you look at the woodgate shoot out results the apex is dead last in year in and year out. Those are 1000 foot runs in a controlled environment. Not some guys video he posts racing who knows how far against who knows what. Numbers don't lie

The apex needs at lest a 1000 feet against a dialed etec.
