Off-season maintenance

if there is a snap ring holding the bearing in they are. i do remeber the 02 viper rear uppers where non serviceable from factory but the srx wheels where the same and serviceable. never had a mono skid sled to service so i cannot tell you for certain.

Mmm good point, I'll tear more into it tonight , trying to find parts and peices now wheels bearibgs ect.. , I'll get the wheels replaced .. then degrease/ pressure wash the skid and throw some rattle can paint on it .... The skid it's self looks pretty straight forward , no cracks in the arms or anything.. I did see the rub on the mono shock from the track .. worn it pretty good.. thinking maybe just take the bolt out and spin that end so the other side starts to wear lol, I don't I have a welder otherwise I'd fab up a chunk to cover it

Dove into the idler wheels tonight ..all have replaceable bearings (cept the two outter rear axle wheels I'll just replace them) , the 6205 and 6005 bearings ..they are cheap enough to do all 6 smaller idlers and the two upper bigger wheels and the "3rd wheel" on the axle , deff going to get the 4th wheel kit .. seems a no brainier to me , cheap insurance for a trouble free ride

there is a kit for the shock wear issue. Basically a longer upper bolt and a pair of bearings for the track to ride on I don't think the shock can go in upside down and clear everything but I could be wrong. be certain to route the wire for the shock the correct way and zip tie the heck out of it or the wire will break.

Got the #*$&@ end back together and fired it up for a "smoke test". Something an old mechanic I knew called it after getting it all back together lol .. it had some smoke lol , burning off all the pentrating oil I had all over the exhaust prolly ... Ended up taking a whole 3 1/2 qts of oil after everything.. assuming I got more out than usual on my drain ... Purrs like a kitten .. I still have the belt off and after she got a lil warm, I blipped it few times and I noticed that the primary clicks in and out of engagement rather abruptly .. (100% stock). Like u can actually hear it click . my first thought is it's "sticky" but it goes out and in of engagement all the way , just does it rather abruptly .. normal ?
My clutch did the same with our a belt. I asked a very experienced racer/ sled mechanic and he said NEVER run the motor without the belt. It could break the shaft and go through the roof .

I ment only spin around the one end that's rubbing .. who sells this kit for the shock ? I'd deffinitlylike to look into that... Ok edit ..I see ulmers makes a kit for this . $25 for a bolt and two bearings.. deff gunna get that, if it wears any further it will start to wear in the little ears that hold that eyebolt and metal rubbin on the track is not good !

Yikes ! I can't see how it would break the shaft , but I'll take your word that it's prolly not the best thing in the world for it

Got the boogie wheels with all new bearings back on after a pressure wash of the skid and quick rattle can grey freshin it up and cover the rust on the welds .. I drilled out the rivets holding the caps in front of slides .. they were loose as hell , replaced with stainless bolts .. I've seen alot on here about guys useing Dupont slides ??? As Yami stuff is nutorous for wearing fast ... This still had the origanls and in decent shape , but had wear spots and needed to be done anyway .. suggestions on what brand or who has them ? Thanks

Duponts are a waste on that skid. Slides will wear fast to a point and stay there for a long, long time replace with OEM or graphite ones when you can fit the open end of a 10 mm wrench over the profile at any point along the skid. had one go 5200 miles on the originals.

Think they wear so fast for lack of support from the idlers .. why ppl put more on ? But 10mm on the meat of the slide or the whole side profile? Eaither way I ripped um off , they have one spot where they were real thin below the pivoiting point for the shock , guessing that's where all the weight rides most

Not that I want to spend $80 on slides anyway , but why wouldn't the DuPont's do anything for this ?

I ran mine without DuPonts for over 10k I'd switch out slides at end of season during spring maintenance until this season when I ran in low snow conditions and melted my none Dupont slides.

Just after all this time I'm trying them out. Do you need them no will they last longer I sure hope so time will tell for me.

I just ordered slides from B.O.P. good price and allegidly the white non dyed ones are pure UMHW and will last "longer" , I couldn't fathom spending that kinda coin on Dupont or hyperfax slides , I know these skids like to eat slides .. so time will tell

They wear fast until the wheels start to touch. then they hold up a long time. not worth the money for duponts because at that much money for them you can buy oem ones 6 times over. they will hold up for a complete season on OEM ones. The skid got a bad rap because the point that they wear to quickly is close to the wear point of the slides and people would get nervous and change them when in fact they would have been good for many miles. the 10mm is measured as the full profile. when the slide is on the skid if you can get a 10mm wrench over it at any point they are worn out. I like X wheels if you want to add something to make them last even longer. they are a little oversized and the hold up well. I run them on my xtx I got them used from bop and I have 9000 miles on them myself and have never serviced them at all. I am over 5000 miles on my xtx with the set of stock slides that are on there with the help of the X wheels. The XTX skid will burn up slides in 1200 miles or less in stock form.

This is a myth. don't buy into it. use the 10mm rule trust me.
