Off to Maine for season

Flew to Portland this am. 60 miles once I got into town. The area survived the rain. Light snow today. Very little lube on Moosehead Lake lots of overheating by the 800 Cat and Ski donkeys. A little by me too but not enough to shut down and stop. Jo Mary or Jackman tomorrow. Maybe off to QC Wed. Will data log tomorrow. Geaux Tigers.
You picked the week to come to Maine. 1-2" tonight; 4-8" tomorrow night, and a nor'easter forecast for Saturday!!!!! Should be some good riding!

The COUNTY is dialed in as of today

The riding in Maine is only going to get better, at least in the immediate future. We have two "storms" in the forecast, one tonight and a second one on Saturday. My problem, ironically, is that the Saturday storm is going to prevent me from going riding because I will have to stay home to plow snow and take care of our animals while my wife is away. The only thing worse than being ready to go, but having no snow, is having lots of snow and not being able to go!

Yesterday we did Lily Bay to Kokadjo to NEOC and back. Thin until past Kokadjo. No grooming until Twin Pines club at Penobscot. From there to NEOC excellent. Fed the jays at the Grant intersection. Had some apps and blasted back.

Rode across Moosehead to the rock side of Kineo for some photos then to the Birches now at Parlin Lake Lodge. Pretty sure we rode past where the guy went in the water.

Pretty shitty unitl 88/87 intersection. Pretty good from that corner to Parlin. After tonights snow things should be able to be groomed again. Should be great next week in the Moosehead region.

Going home Fri if I can get my rental car on the road.

I'll be back 27 Jan.

Sherman and Patten trails need some snow and grooming, but once at Shin Pond the trails were just excellent North 85/81 to Ashland! We were quite surprised and kind of upset that we had to turn around and head back on our 1 day snowmobile adventure. By next Monday most of my ride spots will be grooming!!!!!!

Edited to read Ashland not Allagash

Also wanted to mention that Shin Pond had 87 and 90 fuel. We used the 90 on our Max Spool 16 /3 bar but only needed 5 - 6 gallons for fill up. We both thought the same after running hard from Shin Pond towards Ashland area and back. Runs very strong on 90. We first fueled up locally with 91 octane from an Irving while in trailer.

There has been some conversations concerning tunes and only 90 octane, so I thought it was worth mentioning.
We ran 90 twice last season with same results. On way back with knowledge of trail conditions and turn on spots, we were running hard when we could whereas there just was not many sleds on the trail. All I will say is that they performed well with that CRAZY medium tune. Just plain fast!

I have to buy some land up there. I'm tired of the NH riding. I registered for Maine and will be over there at some point. Parlin lake is usually as far as I go. Need to expand

I highly suggest heading up to the central County (Presque Isle, Caribou, Limestone, etc.) to ride. It gives you a central location to head out from north or south and the trails are always phenomenal. We've been staying at the Bunker Inn on the old Loring Air Force Base for a while now (huge parking lot, gorgeous kitchen, easy trail access - all the good stuff) and we cover 300+ miles a day easily.

I switched to Maine 3 years ago and rarely ride N.H. now. trails are no comparison, no speed limit, and the grooming is fantastic. A lot more snow!

We bought land and built in Jackman, @ 10 miles north of Parlin Pond, and love it. Given the respective economies, I suspect that you could get a place in Aroostook much cheaper than Jackman, Rockwood, Greenville, etc., and generally, the County is a little more reliable for snow, but the County is a long commute on weekends, even for us in central Maine.
