Pilot 6.9 on xtx fwiw review

I replaced the stock skis with the 6.9 pilots and ski rubbers from skidoo. I put skidoo 6" 60deg in the middle and 4" 90deg on the outboards. I have not put on a ton of miles but enough to know they were a great mod.

Pros are no darting, easy to turn, dont push, float better and cost less than most aftermarket skis.

Cons very soft plastic and they seem to have more drag.

FWIW my sled is not studded.

A set of 2X4s are a better upgrade than the stockers.
Seriously though, the stock skis have been a joke for many years, even in printed mags. I've heard rumours that the 2013 models will be sporting the new "Tuner" dual keel skis. That would certainly help, imo.

Glad to hear this. Just ordered 6.9's for mine havent got them on yet but cant wait to try them. Hopefully I will get them on this week. I am running 6inch shapers and 4 inch on the outside for carbides.

I would like to give a review of my 6.9 pilots but as of today they do not have one mile on them. Hope it snows soon!!! I am running 8" Bergstrom trips down the middle and the stock bar that came with the kit and rubbers from ski-doo.

Put 1200 miles on new 6.9 pilots last week. Very happy with the skis. Great upgrade for a small price. 6" shaper bars in the center 6" 60 degree in the outside. Gave up one of the outside bars to a buddy that needed it on his ski doo. Couldn't tell the difference between using one wear rod and two it still handled good.

IA Rider, Question for you (or anyone else of course)....have you ever used (in your pilots on the fx nytro) anything other than the shaper bars? If so...when you switched to the shaper bars did your steering get harder? The reason I ask is in the past I have always run 6" centers and 4" outers (woodys or roetins) in the pilots and the steering has been so easy/light. -But today was my first ride with 6" shapers in the center and a old set of (half worn) 6" woodys for the outer...and man was it heavy to steer today.

Have only ran the shaper bars on my XTX. Snow was loose steering was not heavy. I have run simmons skis and they steer great but work the arms. The main reason I went with Pilots is price and availability of wear rods and replacement skis when back packing if you need wear rod for a simmons ski good luck finding one.

Thanks IA Rider. I been using the Pilot skis for about 5yrs now (on a Apex and now my Nyrto) but yesterday was the 1st time I ever put the shaper bars on them and although they bite alot better I noticed the steering got heavier as well.

Had 6.9 Pilots on now for two seasons. These skis work great on the Nytro.

Work great in the deep snow for floatation. Very little darting and easy steering. The only negative thing is they seem to wear through carbides faster.
Maybe because of the front end weight and carbide contact area.
I run 6" in the center and 4" on the outside.

I've tried all kinds of carbide manufactures. Woody's, Stub Boy Shaper, and Berstrom tripple points. They all work good. Berstrom last the longest but cost the most.

I tried USI X2 skis once. Man it was like steering a Semi Truck with out power steering. Way heavy sterring.

noticed the same. put 6" shaper on inside of my simmons. dont like the way they fit in the ski or the increased height.
thought it was just me that thought they made steering harder.
def work good tho, had sled picking up inside ski on corners. no pushing at ALL.

Are the stock skis on the 08's and 09's that everyone is replacing with aftermarket ski's the same skis that are on the 10's and 11's? Or did they do an upgrade on the stock ski's for the 2010's and 2011's?

What are you guys running for rubbers. Do the stock yamaha ones fit or do you need new ones?
