Pilot 6.9 ski's installed

**IMPORTANT**
We have seen one member with shaper bars show heavy wear at the FRONT of his carbides. His sled is a 17. We think the stock soft rubbers may "set in" or "sack" over time. In his case, he added some shims and his setup seems to be better, but he needs more time to watch the wear.

I did my own test(only 550 miles) and with shims added, mine wore too much in BACK of carbides. So in my case the shim was too much, and not needed at all.

We are not sure exactly the differences from his sled to mine, with exception of his is older and may have the rubbers sacked into the pilot pocket more.

My suggestion for new pilot installs, is to follow the original rubber instructions in the Original post. Trimming the rubbers ect as shown here. Run the setup for a couple hundred miles and be sure to check your carbide wear as much as possible in the first couple hundred miles. If your carbides show even wear, with the skis running nicely parallel to the ground then leave it alone. If you show wear at the front of carbide then add some 1/4 shims(Bergstrom). This may be something that needs to be updated as time/miles goes along. What works on season 1, may need slight shimming by season 2 as the rubbers sack/conform into the pilot pocket.

Please post your results in this thread and over time we will have a good handle on the shimming.

Good post Dan and another thing that needs to be considered is how some riders have their springs and shocks set up. Also what conditions are they riding on? There are way too many variables to have a set up that works the same across the line. What you have come up with is an excellent starting point and those who follow need to understand that they may have different results and may need to adjust to their particular sled and riding style.

Agree.....I had another conversation with powderfalcon this morning on phone to ask more variables....

His is ltx and mine rtx, but many with ltx have good wear, like Toms is still running orig carbides but I still have not put my own eyes on it yet, Tom did tell me they are not worn thru though.

We all just need to watch them far before they wear....I sorta put mine thru the test for my own benefit to see how long the big shim would go, and it never did 'set in' like I thought it would. So im gonna pull them and heavily modify them to sit down into pocket, just enough to keep bottom of rubber from pressing down into pocket.

But It does seem many without any shims are having decent wear.

So without reading through all 41 pages here.... When installing a doo ski, do the Yammi rubbers still need to be trimmed on the underside?

Thank you

Josh,
Yes, I trimmed all of the outer bottom rubber off on mine as I was not concerned, nor did I want heel pressure on my skis using Snowtrackers. I also did not rotate the Doo bushing around as the skis bolted up nicely.

I am picking up Doo rubbers tomorrow that I ordered.
Where can I expect to trim ? On the top surface do I match the profile of the Yamaha rubber lower radius for the ski leg with the lowest radius position of the Doo rubber ?

Haven't read all the posts, but has anyone tried filling the void with epoxy or something to make a nice flat surface for the rubber?
I was wondering about this too.

Just read the first few posts...its all there, nothing has changed.

DOO rubbers are not preferred and will be alot of work.

Not really needed. The original setup works well....just watch your wear and if you need shims over time, add them as needed but so far no shims seem to work fine for many, and I have gone to a thin bergstrom 1/8" shim to test with.

I will be using a 8xxx series 3M epoxy on mine. Will report the results later.
