RADAR AHEAD - Hand gestures??

I'm glad we don't have speed limits on the trails in South Dakota, but I believe you can still get in trouble for reckless driving so you have to use common sense when it is safe to open it up. There is no worse feeling then an out of control sled headed at you on a tight corner. Been there a few times.

By the way Michigan does not have a daytime speed limit and 50 mph at night

Where did THAT come from? There is no speed limit for sleds in MI except near fishermen, buildings, and within towns.......if riding the sides of legal roads the speed limit for that road applies.

Speed Limits? Radar? What are they. They dont exist on the trails around this area. I do like that....

BUT...

I have yet to meet the police/enforcement who are supposed to be checking for trail passes! Only once in the last 4 years have I met them on the trail. No wonder people dont buy passes! :o|

End of Rant! lol

Well.....you need to make a trip to Ontario to enjoy the wrath of the local OPP.

On one day back in January we were stopped 3 times in the Muskoka area . I don't mean they let us roll through acknowledging our trail pass the Federales stopped us then not only checked to see that we had a valid trail pass and tag on the sled.........they checked ownership, insurance slips, and then they wanted the sales receipt for the OFSC trail pass. Apparently and we did confirm that you must carry the sales receipt for the OFSC pass with you to confirm that you purchased it, that it matches make / model sled it was purchased for, and the serial number on the pass matches your receipt??? Ridiculous!!

Now they have a new agenda.......they are checking every rider to ensure they have their helmet done up?? WTF?? Not only are they checking to see it is done up......they check to see if they can pull the strap out over your chin. If your helmet strap is not done up or loose they are giving out tickets. Again RIDICULOUS!! This past weekend we went through 3 speed traps / check points. I am losing my patients with these jokers!!

They have been sitting on straight always in my area with radar guns , and seen people pulled over so I'm thinking there's a speed limit here day or night ! Not sure what it is but I'm guessing 55mph !

If you read the DNR regulations relative to snowmobiles there are NO speed limits per se for snowmobiles in the state of MI. There are restrictions as to how fast you can proceed when near ice fishermen and inhabited buildings but on designated trails, no speed restrictions.

You may have some local ordinance trying to regulate speed in a specific area but the DNR does not have any rules about speed.

That is ridiculous. I do like the fact that we arent harrassed here in Newfoundland but there is alot of people going around without trailpasses and the amount of sleds in this area is ALOT compared to the trail passes sold.

I cant believe that they check the helmet straps on your helmet! In newfoundland I dont even think you are required by law to wear a helmet on ATV or Sled!

I wouldnt want to have regulations as strict as you guys in Ontario but more patrol for stickers would be nice.

Sorry got off topic of this thread a bit.

There is no law saying you have to carry a receipt! That is a recomendation by the OFSC and not law! I know its a moot point when a Officer is being a dick. There are cases where they have told people to get their sleds off the trail because of no receipt. But again they can't legally tell you to do so. The law only says you have to apply a sticker unlike a car or truck where the law says you have to show paperwork. Officers are confusing the two! You would beat it in court! Not sure where you confirmed it! This has been beat to death in the ontario forums!

As for the helmet strap, no one is touching me!
