Check out this thread.. http://www.dootalk.com/forums/index.php ... 0&start=0.. After reading this I'm curious out of buyers worry.. is there anyway someone could put a different speedometer on a newer yamaha sled without it showing correct miles?

I would think yami would have this figured out, but who knows.. That thread makes you scared to ever buy a used sled again ,lol! Although coming from a doo, I have to say that buyer was stupid. It was clear as day the sled had alot more miles on it.

there was a post I think on DooTalk about a person swaping out speedos on sleds. But I think Yamis are fine had a friend replace his on an Apex the milage stayed the same. I think the mailage is kept on the computer not the speedo I could be wrong and he just got lucky with his.

04rxw10, you are correct. There was a guy on here last year that did a swap. He installed a Vector speedo on his Nytro. After install everything popped up correct.

Mileage is stored on the guage cluster. Had my cluster stop working and had to get a different one. My cluster had around 5,000 miles on it, the one I put on it had almost 7,000. Not sure if dealer can tell if it is the original one or not.

Ditto...
When I parted my RX the guys were all asking how many miles were o the gauge. Mileage is stored in the gauge. MANY guys swap speedos like that when they sell a sled. I used to know a guy years ago that always bought a new spare speedo when he bought a sled.

Sad to say but it happens all the time! ;):D

Yea thats why I'm asking. I would never do anything like that to someone, but sure makes you scared every time you go to buy one..

I think its stupid with all the tech in these sleds, why dont they make it so thats not possible to be so easy. Seems like they would save alot of scams from ever happening..

That's why when I buy used sled or even parts, I take the VIN and run it through the dealer. Service checks often record the mileage. I was looking into a used sled a long time ago. The sled had 4000 miles on the speedo. I callled the service dept and they told me the sled had a service check at over 10,000 miles. Of course that only works if a person brings it into the dealer.

With the Doo the cluster is married to the ECM so if you swap the gauge cluster out you HAVE to have it reporgrammed by the dealer, and the mileage will stay correct with the sled. This is in the XP ofcourse.

If someone were to take a smashed sled say and swap ECM / DESS / Gauge cluster into a high mileage sled you cannot tell.

There was a local dealer(not a ski-doo dealer) in my area that was selling second-hand ski-doos that had about 2000-5000KM on them.Sleds looked in great shape and came from a rental place in Quebec.Sometime later i found out that somebody purchase one of the sleds, brought it to a Ski-doo dealer for service. The dealer said the sleds computer was from a totally different sled.Buyer beware.

man this kind of thing almost seems like standard practice.. I'm still convinced the 06 rev I had bought from one of the local dealers had alot more miles on it then was stated, one of those things that you cant prove it but you know you got screwed after the fact..

The next sled I buy I am going new for sure. I'm getting sick of used sled woes, want something next year or the year after thats mine right from the start.

It's not that difficult to roll them back...guy around here charges $500 to roll back the odometers on trucks...plug and play is all it is. If there is money to be made somebody will figure it out for sleds.

its a felony if you get caught
