Secondary belt adjuster and belt remover

Joe, I think as far as belt removal, they all work the same....only diff being with the OSP the "bolt" tightens against the black hard plastic material, which i also like cause the bolt head wont marr into the helix as you open to change belt. Honestly these YAM secondarys I have never needed a removal tool, as they are so easy by hand. Or as others have mentioned put a wrench on one of the 3 helix bolts, and turn that inward which also open clutch quickly and easily.

The only washer would have to be a plastic material, as any metal washer against helix will end up chewing up the threads on alum body.....that was why OSP deleted their washer and just left the black spacer. Not sure why they cant just make that black spacer thinner, and not so thick...but its likely very tough being so thick.

I like how Daves uses a BRP style tool to thread in for changing belts...only thing is , it looks like the tool does not have ALLEN on the other end, for tightening the adjuster....so his might need to carry the tool and a allen wrench anyway.

They will all float too, its just how the design is. Once the sled starts to roll and helix leaves the edge of the adjuster, there is now space there, and when I designed the original, I left about 60thou(approx 2 shims thickness) in the design so it had 60 thou of float.

First video is early ideas on the float plug, I was more after trying to float for belt life then worried about dial adjust which came later in the design....second video is the final design, back in 2012. Then Jim and I collaborated more later and the belt removal was added and now the spacer.

They all will work I have the osp and never use the bolt to change belt I can have my belt changed and panels back on before most people could find there bolt I don't understand y people want the bolt to remove the belt?
 
I ran the OSP adjuster for over 3200 miles last season and loved it. Easy to change from 8dn and 8jp belt. I don't use the Allen just to replace belt, but if you were to use the OSP adjuster has more relief in the plastic spacer to open the clutch a bit farther.
I ground the tip of the Allen smooth just so it did not tear up the plastic spacer just in case.
 
That is the main reason I want one....cause I want to test with diff belts and can just dial in the deflection quickly.

On the doos, you need a belt tool, but the Yam secondarys really are the easiest to open manually....

Might be abit tougher with the new sec spring now, with more side pressure.

The new thunder secondary it can still easily be changed I've changed mine a dozen times or so with now issues.
 
Yes! The ease of swapping to different belts was easy with the OSP. I still seen a couple Mph with the 8JP. No matter how I set up the 8DN.

Riding it stock means so much more to me the last 4 sleds or so....before that though, nothing could stop me from all the mods before it ever had one mile on it. Now I really like to get a feel for it.

I think that is the coolest part about these turbos vs a typical 2s. With the 2s sleds, not really much to do for big gains. Just a few small clutching items is norm, but not gonna change a 2s all that much. With the turbos, and being able to add 50hp easily, its like a completely NEW sled. Its like going from a 600 to an 800, or a nytro to a apex...ect ect.

So now you can love it season ONE, and then love it season TWO as it will feel NEW again with tons more power.....Hard to wait though til season two! haha
This sled is the opposite of the APEX. There were very few HP gains under $2000 & those were minimal. Aftermarket clutching did very little & some made the Apex slower. For $1000, you can have a 'Winder close to 300 hp. That's just INFREAKINSANE!
 
Dan you must have drove your parents crazy before christmas. You have been in every post, written 3 book reports & probably called every vendor in North America...and you don't even have the sled yet!
 
It sounds like my question has been answered and it looks like I will be going with the OSP. The reason I was concerned about the belt removal is that I have had Skidoos the last several years and there is no changing the belt without using the tool. I also have carpal tunnel in both my wrists from 32 years of working with my hands. Things I found easy to do all my life are sometimes a chore. Thanks for all the replies.
 
The original OSP adjuster didn't have the belt remover but the new updated one does. This is the one I want.

 
I got the thunder for last year along with there washers for primary spring,all worked fine,with 719 hard miles on boosted sled,the only thing with the thunder is his has the large steel washer,so when you want to open the helix to remove belt,you do have to remove center bolt,and slide out adjuster and add washer,and reinstall and tighten center bolt back down,before spreading sheeves apart with screw on to the steel washer,to save helix. Sorta a pain,compared to the one you made up in 13 dan,that I had used on my cat.
 
Yeah I guess that large flat metal washer, would then end up galling up the threads on adjuster over time...so OSP got rid of it altogether and just left the thick black spacer.

They have gone thru an evolution for sure....from that first design where I simply was looking to float the Secondary on those cats for hopes of better belt life....(this is why OSP uses the word float i their description) and it then got added the dial adjust for quick deflection adjusting...and then it got the belt removal tool added.....so it went thru 3 different styles......and the price went up too! I noticed in my video I mentioned the pricing was 29 bucks then....wow cheap!...lol

Many tunes are adding 70hp now.....But you do need to open up exhaust to get there.

I like the stock MODDED muffler myself, wont sound any louder then stock and easily meet any DB criteria for noise, and look stock with stock heat shields....So that would pass any checkpoint ect anywhere. And you can get any tune from 240 to 280 hp with that stock modded.

I realize many guys dont want to touch stock muffler, and I dont blame them. Myself I will be testing the bottom end response on stocker vs 2.5" just to rule out any increase in lag.

For those guys, you can run a Tune from Ben, Dave or others...they are the base tune which will get you a modest increase of 15-25HP with stock muffler. So that would be something you could consider.
