Has anyone else experienced the sled just shutting down for no reason after the new flash? It actually seems to be happening to mine more frequently now. It happens mostly at idle, or when moving slowly. Yesterday I rode for six hours and it died 6 or 7 times, once at about 20-25 mph.
I have had mine stop running while idling after the engine has been warmed up. Only a few times since flash in Dec. Speedometer is still way lower then actual gps speed and takes two turns of the key to start most times.
On Saturdays ride it was -20 C, I actually had to tap the throttle to start it. It would not start on its own.
I had my sled in the dealer last week and told them I heard there was a new flash to fix the speedo problem. He called Yamaha and of course they told him that they had not heard of any Speedo problems and there is only the original Dec flash available.
Asked me to fill out a questionnaire.
Still do love my sled though. What an awesome ride in Algoma region. No one for miles and miles and tons of snow. Did over 200 miles Saturday and 50 with kids on Sunday.
Keep after your dealer. I know you love your sled and so do I but trails I rode last weekend I would love my old Skiroule! Seriously a sled that actually dies at idle will kill someone eventually.

For guys with sled dieing I'd wiggle the main harness under the dash! I had an intermittent hi beam and found a bad pin connecter in the harness. I tightened it by prying with a dental pick and it's good now. I was think it would be bad if it had have been a more crucial pin that failed.
Have your dealer reflash your sled again. Takes 2 minutes and it will only accept the newest flash. If the newest is already in there. It just wont take a new one. They have nothing to lose. Trust me it will flash.I have had mine stop running while idling after the engine has been warmed up. Only a few times since flash in Dec. Have you looked into the throttle safety switch? This sounds like it could easily be your issue if it's shutting off just like somebody hit the kill switch.

OK guys, called the dealer and a flash is showing up now. They knew nothing about the speedos reading incorrectly from this flash and knew nothing of a fix for it. The flash in his system was issued 12-21-16. Is this going to be the one with "the fix" or is it the first go round? Supposed to drive up there today.

That date is 4 days after I had mine flashed with a bad speedo! Figures
I don't know if they bothered changing the date in flash designation. Probably just changed the flash itself. If they change the name/date then everyone would know the screwup they made with speedo not just us! This allows the Ostriches with head in sand to continue saying "never heard a thing". Pathetic. If your dealer succeds and does it with positive attitude please thank them and bring pizza, beer or donuts. Good service needs to be encouraged.OK guys, called the dealer and a flash is showing up now. They knew nothing about the speedos reading incorrectly from this flash and knew nothing of a fix for it. Had anyone with the speedo issue had it resolved yet? Mine was done December 6th and was one of the first to have it done at this dealer.

Had mine done 12/29. Rode new years weekend and found could start took two attempts. Would even take 2 when somewhat warm. No kickbacks experienced. 87-88 0n the speedo 86 on the gps. Idle once warm 1480-1510, 30 rpm fluctuation. Installed EVO muffler 2nd day of weekend. Started same as stock, no issues.
Rode this past weekend. much colder. sled would start on first try dead cold, -2f on the temp gage, it took a few spins of the motor to fire but when it did it stayed running. Did experience some two attempt tries when warm/hot. Idle still steady 1480-1510. Trails were set up well for speed and mileage. Saw 93 at 9-9100 rpm.
MPG check was 128.4 miles/8.1 gallons. No kickbacks in the 400+ miles since the reflash.

The sled is going into the dealer tomorrow morning, so I will suggest that. The sled shuts off, just as though someone hit the kill switch, so perhaps that is a possibility; however, I think that there are some earlier posts in this thread (or the other thread about the new flash for fall of 2016) that describe other vipers having the same problem after receiving the flash. I got the flash on mine with 2 miles on the odometer, so I really don't know whether it was there before the flash or not.H

Thank you, I think you made a good call! I took my Viper into the dealer, and just got it back. They said that there was something inside the throttle that was sticking, and would have the same effect as the kill switch. I am assuming they were referring to the safety switch you described. They said that there was some "hard grease" which was preventing it from working properly. I have not had a chance to ride it yet, but I should find out this weekend whether it fixed the problem.H
