SR Viper HID/LED Recomendations.

Ok, led's just showed up in the mailbox, opened the box, everthing looks good, put led bulbs in the reflector housing, but how do you put the gold retainer back on, it wont slip over the fan housing, is the black indexing ring on the led removable to put the gold retainer on? I tried taking it off but its not coming off and didnt want to damage anything.

Actually i got the black plastic indexing collar off by twisting counter clockwise and pulling, then reinstalling with the gold locking collar, plug ends fit right in, made sure the leds are positioned correctly, but one last question arises, do you leave the rubbet boot off or trim it to go around the fan housing?

By my opinion, the rubber boots could probably stay off or be trimmed to the fan housing diameter, so i take it you dont have any coolig issues of the led's with the boots on?

How does one know? You must have different kit i just unscrewed the fans put ring and boot in middle screwed back together and installed.

Just called the manufacturer, its an updated design, i installed the boots without any trimming like with the regular h4's, just had to put the boots on like i did the gold locking ring by taking off the black indexing collar, simply put i took off the black indexing collar by twisting counter clockwise and pulling off, put factory black rubber boots on following by the gold lock ring and the black indexing collar, its a tight fit, but fit's perfect.

Murdered,
Can you post a pic of the packaging so I can find on eBay or amazon, thanks. Don’t want to get the wrong ones. Should work great with newer headlight housing also. Thanks.

I just completed the install, everything was plug and play, tried it out in the garage to make sure i didn't have the bulbs upside down for high and low, just waiting for darkness now, but so far money well spent. Pm me with your # and ill text you some pics as can't seem to figure out how to resize the pics to post on here:o|

Thanks for the pics and the eBay info.

I just wanted to post another option for led's that didn't require any modification to the existing housing or the rubber boot. Here is what I purchased through amazon HIKARI Ultra LED Headlight Bulbs Conversion Kit -H4 (9003),Philips Lumileds 12000lm 6K Cool White. The base plate removes easily so you can slide on the rubber boot and retainer ring for a straight forward install. I will say it was a bit tricky but have patience young grasshopper and it will work with no mods. A couple of observations I will share after a full season of riding. Two of my other riding partners have different led brands on their ski doos. They are just as bright as mine but the difference between dim and bright is only slightly different. My led's have a very noticeable difference between dim and bright, I would say comparable to the stock bulb albeit much much brighter and whiter. I installed these bulbs early on so this next observation might have been common with the stock bulbs too. Depending on the conditions some parts of the internal lens will fog up. The area immediately in front of the bulbs is always fine but the sides will fog up. I am not sure if this is from a lack of heat in comparison to the stock bulbs or if the lens fogs up with the stock bulbs too? At any rate fog or no fog these bulbs just flat out rock in comparison to stock. These bulbs have built in fans and trust me you can't hear them over the stock exhaust. I was worried the fan would be impacted by severe cold/heat/moisture but after a season of riding they are still plugging along. For what its worth if you angle a flashlight just right you can observe the fan blades of both bulbs just to make sure they are operating. Just for chits and giggles I lined my sled up with my 15 F-150 which by the way I consider to have excellent stock lighting and there was no comparison. The sled was considerable brighter and whiter, granted I am talking about eyeballing it and not using a lux meter. Very happy with these bulbs and the performance thus far.

I made the switch this year to; PIAA 17204 White 23W H4 Performance LED Bulb (6000K, 3600/2600 Lm, Twin Pack, 9003 or HB3). They were pretty expensive but I have done my research. In the end you get what you think will do the job and some times you nail it and some times it doesn't work out. The SR-Viper, regardless of the year was never available with an LED headlight option. The headlight lens and reflector was designed for the standard light pattern from a halogen H4 lamp and not the light pattern of an LED device.
I could not be more satisfied with the performance of the PIAA LEDs I installed. Most of the guys I ride with are trying to light up the trail at night, trying to cast a beam farther and brighter than the speed they ride, wanting to have more light than they can catch up with. At 100mph your traveling at 146.667fps, 80mph = 117.333fps. At 50mph your still traveling at 73.3333fps. Most headlights in a car can only reach out 160ft in perfect conditions. The math is simple, how long is your reaction time vs your ability to stop. Ride safe and in control we have all been there. $.02

Did you guys install your rock hids with the blue shield on? I know it says to, but I can’t see how that would help your light? Seems like it would hurt the display
