Just change the track the storm 150 is a great choice for corner to corner riding and holds its own in the powder the rip saw don't last as long, the lowered ride height is no concern it works amazing for the trailsFor trail riding and lakes the 1" will work well....it wont have the longevity of the Rip2 though IMO. It will be faster on top end.
I typically install my track of choice on EVERY sled I have ever bought(til the rip2) and I have always worked the track into my deal. Dealer gets me my track of choice, I take sled home and install new track myself, give him back stock track, all for same price.
I would be more concerned about the lowered ride height and less suspension travel for those rough days, then the track too be honest.

One complaint my dealer has had is the lack of bite when braking too. Traction gets you going....but it also stops you. Something else to keep in mind with smaller lug track.

Smaller lug track is stupid IMO. If it’s like any other sled I’ve ridden when going from a 1” to a 1.25” there will be a large advantage in looser conditions with 1/4” more lug.
SRX is made for lake racing and they can get a little more MPH with the smaller lug.
My sled has a 1.375” lug track and I have no problems hitting over 130mph on 270hp tune.
If you want better trail manners and top speed just get a tuned sidewinder, that way you don’t have to change the track. M2C

Good points about the stopping ability with a smaller lug track, especially in the loose stuff. I would be running studs. So I guess I would have to plan on a track change in the price equation.

What you going to do with your apex?
Probably attempt to sell her. I just do have some hesitation of going to the AC hybrid, as my Apex has never let me down. Just reading on these forums, seems to be "a lot" of issues on the Sidewinders. Gear cases, BOV's, Belts among some of the numerous shortcomings. One of the guys I ride with has gone through three belts in less than 700 miles and is now on his fourth. It is tuned up, but I don't like seeing or thinking that at anytime it may blow a belt. Just one more thing to consider.

No, it's "tuned up", I get it, the more you throw at it, issues will arise. But was up in Big Moose a few weeks back, and a guys SRX in the parking lot was broke due to a gear case issue, other than the site glass fallen in.Is your buddy's SW 100% stock?

I absolutely love my SRX in the trail and wouldn't trade it for anything. That being said after 1500 miles I will be changing my studded 1" track for a fully clipped and studded 1.5" Storm. The 1" isn't terrible you just don't get that acceleration giggle feeling on anything but hard, hard packed trails. I also don't feel the SRX with the 1" track is noticeably faster than any other well tuned sidewinder considering all the variables involved. Just my opinion of course.

SRX is a fair bit faster top end then its exact counterpart with taller suspension and 1.25" track. Likely 3-5mph is my guess all things being equal.I absolutely love my SRX in the trail and wouldn't trade it for anything. I suppose but once the tuning begins very rarely is anything equal, and a good running LE or SE will run ski to ski. Especially if your on anything but ice. I have both and believe me I’d love to think my SRX is that much faster but it just isn’t nor is it any faster than the two other tuned 998’s i ride with. I very well could have a pooch of an SRX though. LolSRX is a fair bit faster top end then its exact counterpart with taller suspension and 1.25" track.
