I even share the cat dna issues, and tell them I was never a cat fan. Everyone I 'let' try it, had only great things to say. Biggest complaint was the way it pushed you up to the gas tank.Word here in New England is the presales are up. I have said before, the more people that try these Sidewinders, the more people want them. I haven't met many who haven't been impressed when offered a test ride on the ones around here.

The Apex was slow to win the Pro Action, trailing arm SRX/ SXR crowd. Most of us that bought Apexs kept our 2 stroke SRXs but found after a couple years we never rode anything but our Apexs and ended up selling our old pro Action sleds that were collecting dust.
History is repeating itself as the Sidewinder is going the same route the Apex did because many years after the SW release they are starting to sell at greater numbers. I know of 8 riders now that have ordered new Winders that had no interest in them 4 years ago.
We Yamaha faithful are slow to accept change and I must say my Side Winder is by far the best sled I have ever owned and my Apex is for the most part collecting dust just like my 2002 SRX did.

Agree. That's why I made some changes and actually rode the Apex equally this year. Simple seat and bar riser change opened up new possibilities. At least two inches higher all around. If that didn't change things she was gone. But, it did in a big way! It was very comfortable and in a weird was felt like it handled better. So now I am doubling down and going to add some premium shocks all around to make it my long mileage cruiser.

For the guys that swap off, from your winder to an Apex or Vector. Have you noticed how very different their riding styles are?
I find that one has to be careful on an Apex after riding a Winder. A corner with a bump will find you sideways on that Apex seat, especially if your feet aren’t locked in.
makes you realize that on a Winder seat, your legs and thighs keep you from sliding from side to side, until you swap with an Apex, and find your A$$ sliding toward the running board!
Anyone else notice what I speak of!
Just 2 very different sleds huh!

I kinda feel the same way the Apex may have it's place but it is not rough trails with tight corners you will find yourself climbing and sliding all over that thing trying to keep up with someone driving a sled with a decent suspension. Trails were I ride are usually pretty good so you don't have to worry to much but some time on the weekends you might run into that. I was a little younger and in way better shape back in my Apex day's I don't think now id be able to ride them as hard as I use to

Just need to lock your boots in on the Apex to keep from sliding off! When I had one, I did not realize that, I just rode it! Not putting it down, just never realized that until I got back on one!

That has more to do with slippery seat material from factory as mine was down right dangerous. Quick fix. I pushed the sled hard through corners bumps etc and I find the new seating position puts me more in control of the sled as my knees are not way higher than my waste giving me much more leverage. I'm 6'3". It will never be as good as the RTX LE in bumps but set up properly with correctly valved shocks I can push it hard and withpower steering it's surprisingly capable. With a better shock package I expect better performance. For the guys that swap off, from your winder to an Apex or Vector. Have you noticed how very different their riding styles are?

Or man Dan tried to get to the bottom of it. No dice this year.

We tried so hard to get it done but unfortunately ran out of winter and our lake went full skating rink in a matter of two days of melt. At this point I still believe the Yamaha is faster on the top end, (few mph) but out of the hole and up to 60mph I’d put my money on the SkiDoo.

If he's saying only 0-60 .... that difference only really is what stud pattern either sled has , do a #*$&@ job on one & do a good job on the other , the better stud pattern will win 9 times of 10 .

If he's saying the winder is a little faster top end ..... then you need to read between the lines .... skidoo put a stop to the drag race because the winder is still the king .

I actually never believed that it was ever going to happen. At the annual Snow Shoots the SnoMo media is invited to test/ride/photo/video the new sleds at one place. The OEM's have always told them no direct straight line races between brands. This is primarily due to the Snow Shoots being held at higher elevations with pre-production sleds so they claim that the results would not accurately represent the the real world results with the actual production sleds at lower elevations where most of us ride.
There's just way to much at stake for a magazine to do a spring time run off with pre-production sleds on many levels for it to happen. Keep the rumors and speculation level high to keep the spring orders coming.
