I am thinking of going back to the stock clutch on my 07 Phazer GT with 1.5" freeride. Now that it is not my primary sled I want it to have a smoother take off. With Ulmer's clutch kit its a bit of a jolt when it kicks in.
I have the secondary at A2. If I go back to stock weights and spring do I need to change anything else?
For those in Manitoba - I may an Ulmer's clutch kit for sale

I do have all the stocks parts - don't know the weights off hand.

You could always toss the stock spring back in with the Ulmer weights and try it out, spring controls 90% of the engagement speed/harshness.

Good idea BlueIronRanger.
It looks like this weekend will be the end of the snowmobile season here. Hopefully I will be able to get out and test it.

Call Alan to discuss. I have his clutch kit and my engagement is fine. I bet it is because you changed your secondary spring and maybe location. I did not touch my secondary. I talked with Alan on my sled set up. He custom drilled a set of weights for me and I followed his recommendations with his clutch kit. Very happy with the performance. G.B.

I do have a previous thread about the abrupt engagement (http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/hard-shift-with-ulmer-clutch-kit.125834/#post-1123510).
My mechanic went over my secndary and could not find anything wrong. I did replace the buttons at the same time.
Allen did respond to the thread. No luck in finding the cause.I did talk to Allan and he recommend changing the secondary to A2 when I installed the 1.5" freeride.

i did the clutch kit to mine as well but had the secondary set to A2 with the stock primary components, it feels like it pulled harder stock then it does now with the kit. i like the engagement better but i feel as if i lost mid range pull.. its the end of our season here so ill mess with it for next season.

In love the performance of the Ulmer clutch kit but hate the abrupt start.

I really haven't had anything like that. Engaging is a slight bit jumpy but it's right about 4K. Also noticed I can hit rev lim a lot eaiser with the kit
Could your deflection just be too loose? My Phazer with Ulmer kit is very smooth launch and was same with original secondary even. That is what I liked so much about his kit. Smooth is fast.

I did check deflection (it sits just below the top) and its within spec. Thinking about removing the reverse fix secondary shim and seeing if that helps.
It will help. I never liked that reverse fix. Belt will end up above the sheaves for correct deflection.
