Team Primary on Winder secondary mocked up

I can do a vid, and would love to, but would have no idea how to put it up here. Just imagine how quiet it is taking the clutch completely off the crankshaft and driving it that way. There is just flat out no clutch noises with the Team at all! It sounds sooooo smooth and nice!

Now my Yamaha clutch had extreme noise. Idle and all the way up to 5-5100 RPM even when on the trail, and it was in pristine shape with o-rings on the roller bolts and everything done to try and quiet it down.
Mike, just upload to Youtube..... Can do it right from smartphone on youtube app quickly.

I would love quiet clutch!

I was riding a Alpha with the Team setup this weekend and was very impressed with clutching and tune stock. Noticed right away how high cat runs the belt out of secondary. Really works good but might be detrimental to belt. They are about double your setup. 1/4 in out estimate. What do you think Knapp?

If you look at my first post here you can see how the Cat belt sits higher than the Dayco XTX I have on the sled now. It really does not matter how high it sits. Longer belt or less centers will sit higher, shorter belt or longer center will sit lower. All it effects is the start and finish ratio is all. Has no effect on belt really. As can be seen, the belts cordline runs right on the edge of the secondary at rest, and belts cordline comes to the edge of the primary at full shift. Much lower ratio at start and finish both vs. the stock winder narrow belt.

Wider belts allows for wider ratios simply because it will ride higher on primary making for more OD, but you can't run out of travel in the driven either. I don't necessarily want more OD, as not a big speed guy anyway, but with Cats longer belt it will also start in a lower ratio, so you get the best of both, both lower and higher shift ratios.

I simply see no cons by switching to the Team short of cost the end users more $$. However machining must be done to the helix's to allow the travel needed for the wider belt. Common sense and mechanical aptitude is in order when doing this swap. It's not for the guy that has no clue on how the clutching system operates.

So who can start selling machined Helix' for the Team Clutch and/or a kit with the Team + machined Helix etc. I find mine WAY too loud as well, extremely annoying!

This thread on the SW Team setup KnappAttack has done is very well done, informative, interesting, and impressive. Looking at the pics with the 1.5" belt ect it even looks right.
Great job!

Does anyone know if the Team clutch starts to rattle once it gets some miles on it, like the Yamaha primary rattles?

Yamaha should be embarrassed about this situation especially if Mike nailed this one with good belt life and track HP.

You would think if Yamaha had any pride at all they would rectify this situation, but my guess is they bury their head in the sand. Just sad!

Awesome stuff Mike!!

And ahhhhhh.... somebody want to buy a pile of primary springs and a rattling pile of bolts!

Im goin to order the cat primary and do the same thing to my viper with 270+hp with sidewinder secondary to. This looks really good

Yes Thank You! Who would have thought we would see the day when Yamaha guys seriously are considering a Cat clutch......

Agreed...but if you look at that Team clutch it looks a lot like an evolution of the Polaris P85 primary clutch from the 80s...I was putting the Polaris clutches on my 1981 SRX and 540 Vmaxs in the 80s to early 90s and gained big time mph on the top end as well as way more tuning options at that time...until Yamaha brought out the current primary and secondary design in the mid 90s I only ran the Polaris P85 primaries and secondaries on my sleds regardless of brand

Thanks All. I figured someone had to try it, might as well be me.

I'm sure it will work well in the field once I get it dialed in, which I don't think will be very hard with the Dalton weights. Have a huge selection of springs and helix combos ready to go as soon as I get to the snow again. Its just a clutch and they all can be tuned well, just need time to get it right, but I'm pretty confident I can dial it in right quick. Wish we'd get snow here in southern MN. Looks like this big one coming of course will go south. Shut out again!

I've been riding northern MN.(Grand Rapids area) and trails have been really nice. You might have to make a road trip....everyone is waiting for the new recipe!!!
