Testing with TD GPS/Dragy

Not a very good day. Has anyone ever seen a bushing come out of their secondary clutch? Newly installed bushing and bearing at the start of the season.

It appears as though the bushing took out the bearing. I was warming up the sled around the lake and something didn't seem right. I pulled over, opened up the clutch panel, touched the secondary and it was hot as hell. My clutches are never hot so that was a sign, then I noticed metal shavings. Thank God I wasn't making passes when it happened.

Did you have your shaft machined for alignment purposes by chance?

Are you concerned about the jackshaft itself? It turned blue from heat. That amount of heat probably changed the metallurgy of the shaft material?

Ya was wondering about that, will have a better idea when I pull it apart tomorrow.

It comes complete but I can only imagine its on backorder.

Is there anyway that bushing could be going past the end of the shaft when you are at full shift.

Yep, had this happen last year. installed a new bushing and second ride it pushed out. Re-installed with green bearing retainer and also center punched some divots around edge. Slid out next ride. My buddies Apex did the same thing a few years ago after installing new bushing. I ended up buying a new sheave with the bushing already in it. Old sheave is currently at the machine shop. Having them machine a groove on both sides of the bushing and installing a clip similar to a wristpin clip! will see how it works soon.

Great, I was planning on installing it with bearing retainer but after hearing your misfortune I now have second thoughts.

I've been wrenching on Yamahas with these clutches basically since it came out in 95 and it is extremely rare to see this bushing come out. If it was installed with loctite and still came out something is really wrong.
Ramsoair, was it an aftermarket bushing or OEM?

OEM bushing. But like I said, another instance of this same thing happening to an Apex. And now again to DMC. The original bushing wasn't bad, just after 15,000kms figured it wouldn't hurt to replace with a new Yamaha bushing. Was very careful pressing the old one and the new one in. Used an short piece of round stock about .020 smaller than OD of bushing in my small press.

Did u loc tite it in ?

Never seen one that holds after installing new bushing now that I had my experience and talked with others
