upper gear bushing

Ok again......don’t overtighten the chain, it’s best to tighten it with the case open and leave it. Don’t re-tighten it in the middle of the season.

I don't know about that advice. If you're tuned and you have traction, these chains stretch, a lot. In a 3000 mile season, your chain will be 6-8 turns loose at least. I check mine every 5-800 kms and tighten it a bit each time.

Yeah I agree. But once it stretches you may be able to tighten and leave it.

Mine is a 17 no hole 21 top had 5000kms and my bushing looked nice. I did a gear swap 22 top with 3 oil holes to try wont know till next season when I pull down and inspect results. I saw a guy this weekend in shining tree had 18 his gear was bad wobbling and pooping out in neutral. His sled if I remember when talking to him 3600kms.
I just had that sled in my shop today, bushing was basically gone. Worst I've ever seen

This is very interesting for me because I am gearing up to the 22 gear. I could only get the 1702-395 gear with no oil holes. The other one is back ordered until April. I drilled 2 holes in my 21 tooth gear. Do I need to drill any in this one?
Did you try Speedwerx?

You can always check the secondary clutch backlash, that’s how I see if my chain is getting loose. New chain and gears this season 1600 miles so far and my secondary still has almost the same exact amount of free play/ backlash it had when installed. I would say you shouldn’t go over 2500 miles without going into the chaincase anyway.

I ordered a 22 gear without oil hole. I just phone my dealer to see if it was in and he said they are back order now also. Sucks! You yammy boys got them all. Anyone want to sell their's ? :D

6,500 miles and I’ve only adjusted tensioner and changed fluid each season. I’m getting scared after reading this thread, better inspect/ replace this year.

22 with oil holes have been on backorder for awhile now.

Mine is a no oil hole gear that came from CAT through Yamaha dealer. That is all we could and can get.

As far as chain stretch and finger tight spec.
Mine stretched between the 500 and 1000 chain case inspections. Did not stretch during break in period which was easy duty, once I got 500-600 miles on it, and started to drive it my normal! Stretched so bad that it wore about 1/4” off that inner nub. Brought it to dealer and was told not to do the 1 1/2 anymore. They now do 1 and so do I.

No more chain stretch since and so far so good with only 2.5K on 22. So if my chain would have never stretched in the first place, I would probably still be doing the 1 1/2 out spec!

Shall see how it looks next year unless, You Know What!!

You can replace the bushing if it comes to it. On a different recent post Dave was showing pics.
