Correct. There are 2 different kits by 2 different companies. One is just the impeller, the other a whole pump kit. It seems the dirt guys have been aware of this for a while....post 51 by cannondale mentions this one for $250, seems to be what we would need

Have there been failures on non tuned sleds?
Will have to look at flow logic, but curious if the higher hp tunes are exposing the impeller to hotter coolant that fatigues the impeller integrity. If flow direction sends the “hot” exit coolant though pump then this could be possible. If pump sees the chilled return coolant then this theory is not viable.
Yes, 2 of them bone stock have had water pump issues.

Reading the SxS forums the 998 water pump failures appear to be very common and on the engines that have had sustainded 8000+ rpm use...kind of like lake and railbed high speed running.

I am sure it loosened up on the shaft and began to wobble some before it had completely failed.

Did you overheat? What are you going to replace it with?

This looks good, and are from dasaracing : One of the weak points in the new Wildcat XX engine is the stock water pump impeller and shaft. The stock impeller is plastic. During normal driving, the plastic water pump impeller can actually separate from the impeller shaft which ceases the flow of coolant throughout the engine (The stock impeller is driven by a pin that will actually break the notch in the plastic impeller). If not caught quickly, this can cause a major failure in the engine.
We have come up with a solution to this problem with our new billet water pump impeller and precision ground 416 stainless steel water pump impeller shaft. Once installed, you will no longer have to worry about the plastic impeller failing and causing potentially thousands of dollars worth of damage to your engine. The new impeller threads onto the stainless shaft - unlike the stock impeller set-up which uses a pin to drive the impeller.

That part looks like a sweet solution. Listed at $250. Also they only list fitment for the wildcat, is there a reason it wouldn't work on the winder?

Yes, overheated and didn't turn on the temp light till the bar graph read 238F°
I replaced the whole water pump with a new Arctic Cat Thunder-cat pump and housing (Cheaper than the Yamaha and had it within a couple days)
