Just wanted to compare whats speeds the rest of you guys are getting out of your Apex., I'm getting on good conditions 112mph on the gun or 113mph on the GPS.
mph apex
Spudster,
If you are completly stock that is good speed. Was you on hard pack or glare ice?

that is good result...
What is the break in before you guys are seeing good top end. Mine is a 2009 RTX and I have 290 miles on it. I have not held it wide open for any length of time, as I am still in break in mode. Off and on the throttle, not steady speeds, at least that is how they recomend breaking in the 2 strokes. I clocked 103 on the speedo and backed off.

I have not had my 2007 Attak gt on radar, but on glare ice, I saw 122 on the wishometer. I would love to know what radar or gps says. How far off are these speedometers now? I had a Viper years back and it seemed to be off by about 12 -15 mph.
All right, I will admit I am one of those guys that do not read the instructions. So what does Yamaha say for break in? I did already changed the oil at 100 miles, 200 miles earlier than required. I had the sled torn down, and yes the wife had some choice words, as the all panels where removed, rear skid, chain case, jackshaft etc., and extroverts where installed with a Predator track. $1,000 dollars later, I am almost ready to try it out again with 144 Top Gun 2's in the 1 1/4 Predator track, Wahl brothers drivers, and 2010 Skidoo XP wheels throughout the skid.
Oh, I forgot the $190 dollars worth of Stud Boy Dueces, I sure hope they are worth the money and last longer than those cheap a** factory carbides.

Last year on glare ice in half mile run saw 117 gps with only my clutching and ram air lid did try back to back with stock lid and the ram air I gained average 2-3 mph this year with PC3 and ing module but more studs 162 now probably the same maybe 120 if I'm lucky. Also have seen 115-116 gps on the trails in the County in Maine consistantly last year we shall see this year.

Most speeds that I am seeing here range from 112-117 GPS. I thought at first mine was just a lemon becuase I was only getting 98-105 on GPS, 120 max on speedo depending on the conditions, but when I asked several other Apex owners in my area they said thats all they were getting, even sometimes less!
So are all of these sleds heavily modded to get these speeds? We are running around 10ish mph slower on gps here, thats huge!

Its all in the set up - my apex with air box lid, PC3 with ignition, clutched and a 1 inch track ran a best of 124 with me on it, and 127 with my girlfriend(both radar).

Big difference running on ice then snow. Hard to get past the c note on snow, unless you have a good ice base. No studs really help for extra speed on a snow trail as the 10+ extra pounds of rotating mass isn't needed. Ice running on the other hand should bring speeds up to typical 108 to 115ish. IMO The easiest way to gain speed is lowering rolling resistance in the track by a lower lug and faster studs (ice pics), but as usual there is compromise with that.

Have seen 118-119 GPS on lightly dusted ice with 96 studs in my track. Hard pack anywhere between 110-115GPS. Packed powder between 100-105GPS. Speeds are very sensitive to conditions!!! Setup and the way you tuck yourself in behind the windshield also make a difference!!!!!
