Who is running TAPP Primary clutch??

I will be installing mine on the '21 this week with a hurricane 270ss tune. Does anyone know if the hurricane alignment tool works with the Tapp?

Honestly not sure. The tapp has multi angle sheaves. On my sled there is only about 1/2mm difference from tapp to yamaha primary when using the hurricane bar. A guy could leave it the same as he had for his yamaha primary and shorten his offset by 1/2mm or add the 1mm washer behind secondary and increase his offset by 1/2mm. Ive reached out to them at tapp twice and and never got a straight answer, they just say its a direct bolt on. Well is it a direct bolt on for the guys who havent machined their secondarys for proper alignment or is it a direct bolt on for the guys who have machined their secondarys and achieved proper alignment with yamaha primary? considering most guys cut 2-3mmm off back of secondary this is a pretty broad range. since its kinda common knowledge that the yamha offset spec is out of whack then was this taken into consideration when building the tapp so it would fix the offset issue? Guys seem to be anywhere from 57.5-60mm and its working but it would of been nice to have a measured offset spec provided with the clutch. Its not up to the costumer to have to mock up clutches and measure and experiment with different offsets. Some people dont have the time or place or tools to do this. A simple offset number would be easy to provide using the same method yamaha shows in their manual.........secondary bolted down with belt removed.

I highly recommend this clutch , simple to tune , quite clutch compared to stock , works great with the stock secondary 35 helix b/0 spring 6-3 wrap . 300hp tune , and the top end speeds amazing thanks dave
it is my impression that the stock helix is not 35 anymore , as was in 17 , as Yamaha had an update of a two stage helix that I don't recall the #'s .

The factory helix in the later model Winders is a 35/39 reverse angle helix, which might work fine for a stock sled, but I don't think it works well for many tuned sleds other than some running Thunder Products primary arms. For some reason it seems to work on them the way their weights are configured or weighted. I know that we reverse it with Dalton arms and run a normal progressive helix or a straight helix.

I have the Hurricane 240 tune with Daltons and the 35/39 helix .
Before I tuned it I had the helix installed and it made a seat of the pants noticeable difference and eliminated the squeal and grabbing of the belt, that would sometimes happen when to let off and then back on the throttle going around a corner .
My tuner said I didn't need to change the helix.

Yeah, that would be nice to know. I hadn't machined the secondary yet on the '21 as I knew I was clutching it differently after break-in. I got the tune and Tapp installed last night, will now start to play with the secondary, though, looking at the weather forecast, it might be next season before I have any real data :-(

I am having belt squeal with the 35/39 as discussed in a separate thread, but its believed to be oil seeping from the airbox thanks to the new ROV design, which will be deleted prior to next season..... I am looking forward to seeing how that helix pairs with the Tapp and 270hp.

I would need some help to tune the tapp clutch ....i lost alots of mph switch to tapp vs oem ...anyone could help me

need more info , how much mph did u lose ? what belt r u using ? was the only change u made was switching the stock clutch to a Tapp ? did u change anything else ? did u make any changes to your secondary clutch ? whats your Tapp clutch set up ? what is your top rpm with your current Tapp set up ?

Just put the tapp clutch like they give me and add some weight to the toe to correct the rpm ...46-36 helix ...its on a 1100 turbo so the belt will not match the srx or sidewinder ...maybe i should take the weight from the toe and correct the rpm on the heel , im new to tapp clutch and im not sure how aggressive they are on tip, rpm is at 8500 but i lose like 5+ mph on top , i give a shot at the clicker they are set at 3 and bring them to 1 and it didnt have any effect on top speed or rpm ... appreciate your help since its not a yam boosted

im not sure what u mean on taking weight from the toe to the heel , the tapp has arms at the end of each arm u can add weight , google Tapp cluchting , they have a great video on how it works and how to tune it , much easier then me explaining it , as for tuning it to a 1100 I have no experience with this motor , I'm sure guys like td or others can help u out , my experience with the 46/36 with the ultimax belt netted me with a loss of mph on my srx , as for the clickers they should net u roughly 200 rpm as u click up from starting at 1

You can add weight with the set screw or u can add weight on the bolts of the roller or put longer bolt with washer on the roller bolts ...i correct my rpm with the set screw maybe i should remove some set screw on the arm and add the weight on the roller bolts... all the weight is on the heel and nothing on tip

Yes that is what I would do and target 8200-8300
