Winder crashed

God Bless you young man,yes the ground and trees hurt when we fly into them,no matter what our age is,heal up quickly.God had your back,it could have been way worse. I to took a tumble last year, flying thru the air,and into a tree, hurts for sure.

WHEW!
Good to hear you're OK!

I've been wearing Fox Tekvest for 6 years now. When i take my jacket off at stops, people look at me funny & some ask "do you really need that?"
I say "I don't need it........until i need it"

I posted how i was behind someone this year that crashed real bad. He broke 7 ribs & his Scapula. The doctor looked at me in my vest & said flat out "that would have helped"

Here is what i wear. The FOX motocross vest has a back "armadillo" support & a kidney/back support belt.

This is the back of my vest. I crashed my bike wearing nothing but this vest on the street. (i was wearing underwear so no wise cracks)
It breathes well so i don't sweat & i don't even know i'm wearing it.

Just remember, nobody ever got hurt MORE from wearing a vest!

where you off the trail running in the ditch?

btw sorry for your misfortune...

this is what I dont like about breaking trail...the unknown under the pow
We were running in the field just up from the ditch where the trail markers show to ride in. Parts of the trail do use the ditches but this area was not actually in the ditch.

Steve those look sweet! I asked the ER doctor if a vest would have helped me out in my situation. He basically said my injury came from my body stopping motion but the organs keep moving. ( Shear factor) He didn't think it would have helped but just like you said it won't hurt at all to wear it! I'm buying one and wearing it 100% and I could care less about the looks I get. To me it's just smart and in this sport every bit can help in an oh sh1t moment!

Thanks for posting up your experience. It goes to show that the unexpected can happen to anyone regardless of how many years you've logged in riding. I can't imagine what that must of felt like flying 40' through the air and then landing in a field. Like the old saying goes......"it's not the fall that hurts but the sudden stop".

Glad to hear that you were able to write about it instead of an even worse outcome and that you're on the mend.

I hope that you have a speedy recovery and that your sled fared better than you did.
Thank you! The sled is not good but honestly I haven't looked it over much. I'm not allowed to lift anything so it will go to the dealer for an estimate. This is why we carry insurance , I'm hoping they can fix it but if not they have more SW's out there! I will start my shopping early lol. ☺️

I wear mine ever time I get on the sled if not for cases like this or maybe even some other #*$&@ hat driving into me. Glad your doing well!!

How bad is the sled?
It's bad. The skis don't look straight front to back. Steering post is bent. Lower Arm on the right is bent. The bulkhead has damage but I haven't dug into it much yet. I am sure there is hidden damage but I can say that sled slammed hard and the amount of damage is much less than I thought it would be. My Poo would have folded like a tin can.

Real sorry to hear that...heal up fast! Hopefully that's your last oh sht...and great rides await in the future.

Ok, don't laugh...it could hurt your spleen, but all we really want to know is...did the rollover valve work????

lol!!! Have a quick recovery!!
LoL! The valve did work! The sled did shut itself down also. It rolled and came to rest on the right side. Funny you asked it was one thing I wondered about when I saw it on its side.

Glad to here your Ok.
It can happen to anyone is a hurry. My son almost died a few years back on a mx bike in a small practice crash. He punctured a lung and lacerated his liver. Could have been avoided for the most part if he would have been wearing his chest protector.

I’m all about safety equipment these days.

Best of luck on your recovery.

Thank you! This is my fear about letting my kids ride later in life as they get old enough. I want them to enjoy and love this hobby as much as I do but as a father I don't want them being injured. I'm glad your son pulled through , I honestly would lose it if I had to go through that. The paramedic told me when it comes to powersports the spleen and liver injuries are very very common.

Are you repairing the unit or insurance claim?

I am glad to hear that you are ok. Sleds can be replaced, people can not be. Another one of our TY members crashed his Winder last weekend. I will leave it up to him if wants to share his story or not. The good news is that he is OK as well although his Winder is probably totaled. I am done for the season but many are still riding and spring conditions can be hazardous. Be careful out there guys!

Yeah, I'm the other one. I'll likely find out today, but pretty sure the sled is totaled. Bad luck, was riding in Munising, didn't see a 12" dip in the trail coming (I was second in the line) so was sitting down, guessing I was going about 45 mph, hit a ~12" dip in the trail, then a small whoop from the dip, and 1 smaller bump immediately after, by the third bump it was like riding a mechanical bull and it sent me to the left and the sled to the right. Soupy was riding behind me, didn't really see it happen but I guess he saw the sled barrel roll. I smacked the back of my head pretty hard on the hard ice/snow - took me a few mins to get my whits back, self-diagnosed mild concussion but pupils weren't dilated so didn't go to the hospital. It's been a week and other than the blood, sweat and tears I have in that sled and a few bruises and soreness I'm ok.

#*$&@, I didnt know that, I must have missed the post, sorry.. damn I am glad your ok, WOW. Did the insurance take your sled then?

Well we got about 16" of snow this past weekend and my sled was put away for the season. Had a friend stop by on his sled , he was out riding with his buddy and I decided to join them. Snow was nice and we were buzzing along the trail on the side of a highway and BAM! I hit a folded over metal sign that caught my right ski head on. The sled went sideways and tossed me about 40' into a field. I brushed myself off and walked over to the sled on its side. Bars were resting on the gas cap. We set everything half back to normal and I was able to ride the short 5 miles back to the house. I knew I was hurt but didn't know how bad. Lot of pain on my left ribs and hip. Ended up in local ER , took a ride in an ambulance to a larger area hospital and was admitted into the ICU with a torn spleen. They let me go home tonight finally. Have to be super careful as it could begin to bleed again if I were to hit it or lift anything heavy. Tek Vest is in my future before I hop on again. Be safe guys , I have rode for many years and this happened. Oh by the way the surgeon told me the vest probably wouldn't have prevented this injury , it was the force of me hitting the ground that caused it. He was a fan of the vest though and said it for sure could help in other situations.

This sounds just like my past weekend, but I wasn't hurt. I had the Apex all cleaned up and put away for the season too. We got a foot of snow from that same storm and buddy called me wanting to ride. 60 miles in, boom! I hit a culvert buried in the snow. Sled went left, I went right. Luckily I just grazed it instead of sticking one ski in the damn thing. Bent up both A-Arms and spindle on the right side, but thankfully didn't damage the bulkhead. Henseljg2 sent my parts out and I should have them today or tomorrow. Great guy to deal with. Damn Iowa ditch banging at its finest!
