Dan,when my sled was in a garage and melting ice/snow off,we read this article inside, and pulled the same red elbow you have, and wham it had a lot of pressure released right than. So we drilled it out and continued to check other hoses and vent tubes and most anything that could be related, just wondering if the fuel pressure regulator close to where we removed the red elbow is a problem,i remember motorhead saying he had bad gas milage with his and maybe a stumbling problem,he took it to his dealer who is Woody,s of maine, and keith ripped into the fuel system, and either found a bad regulator, and replaced or adjusted it,and it solved his problem.
Hey Beast, I was getting terrible gas mileage, no stumbling, so when I brought it in for it’s updates and checks, I had told them about my awful gas mileage. Woody had told me many times that my 10 mpg was not normal, but around 15 was. I was told by the service manager that they found a problem with my fuel regulator,(too much pressure), so they changed it out, rail and all, with another winder sitting on the showroom floor.
Once I reported that to this site, someone else chimed in and thought one could check the ohms reading through the pod. That I have no idea about, but I did as I was asked by a TY member, and checked it and added my findings to the thread. Did not ask how they found my bad fuel pressure regulator. Just know that I did get the 15 mpg after they repaired my sled on that Saturday!
15 mpg by staying out of throttle, before that 10-12 staying out of throttle.
I enjoy trying for mileage on the first leg of our loops. Once we get to gas and refill, and figure our mpg, it is a different story on way back. I expect bad mileage then.
Hope this clears the ohms thing read through the pod!

This might be completely off topic....
But Tom read me something off Facebook(Myself I cant stand FB and stay far from it) where some guy said the RED elbow that goes into the fuel tank(top left side) is the return line(?) I guess and also a check valve is inside that red elbow, So i had some recent pics of mine when I took it apart.
Anyway, this guy(unknown guy) said the RED one is no good, and must be updated to black one. Said the fuel was getting cut off and then the engine will cut out. Who knows if this is right or wrong or even same issue.
But I wondered if anyone here heard of the red elbow being no good and needing black one? I try to keep up on this site but never read this before, and coming from FB who knows if its even right.
Pic of my RED elbow which is an 18.

I just ordered the updated elbow Dan. It was cheap so I figured why not. I'll let you know when it comes in if it's black or still red.

My sled last night, came out of Boston Pizza..it was VERY cold, around minus 26.
After letting her warm up to about 150f on gauge, rode off...slowly.
After a few moderate miles, I hammered her and she pulled then nosed over hard, backed out....ran her mellow another 5 mins....then she did it again.
After about 15 mins, good and warm under hood....she started to clear up and was able to hold it as normal....
Both my DOOS did this too, when cold and not up to temp....I assume this is the ECU not seeing warm enough temps everywhere to allow full throttle operation. Not sure it has anything to do with this red elbow?
I see there is a new thread on the elbow now too.
COLD muther riding last night, and coming across my lake at 105mph at minus 26 is rather interesting...LOL. Only thing got cold was my thumb at end of night, not too bad really....Bars rock, but thumb heater needs more at these temps, and stupidly I decided to try it without the muffs as we were mostly on trail, but that was a mistake...15 below Fahrenheit really needs muff at any speeds! LOL
New iPhone X did fantastic on battery, used it all night, and kept in OUTSIDE pocket at these temps, and never lost a beat...got home after 7 hrs with 88% left still.....My old phone would die in these temps in an hour...LOL. My Mp3 player did not like it though, moved it to inside pocket and she came back to life so GnR was back cranking instantly...
God I love this sled....Even at 15 below F, what a ride.

Interesting couple of paragraphs on efi pressure regulators. Seems like if the return line orifice was too small or was plugged with ice or something it would drop the fuel pressure which could cut power. I wonder if the guys with the updated elbows are cutting out?

Is the red elbow a recall, or update, or warranty item?
Or is this simply an updated part number, and may or may not be a big issue? Mine runs flawless in normal temps. It was just one cold temp it did this.
300 miles on her now in couple rides....flawless for the most part and now revving 8700/8800 at will....breaking in like a yammie does and pulling harder each ride. Pilots are like power steering, even with the 3/8 shims they are perfect, nice angle on ski.
Way too much belt dust on left side of sled for my liking, you guys weren't kidding with the 8jp being a dusty belt! Going to swap over to the ultimax to hopefully cure that dirty issue....nothing i hate more then dirty clutches and footwell.

How do you like it in stock form Dan? How is the low end throttle response that you were concerned about?

Love this sled...Shocks are really what make this sled, Can just pound this thing and the shocks dont give up like the X doo shocks would after some pounding. How do you like it in stock form Dan? How is the low end throttle response that you were concerned about?
Stock this thing is really snappy as hell, its very surprising how linear it feels....Legs forever, which the 1200 did not have. I think its coming close to time for more power though..haha
Im gonna go out and look her over today.....Before the brutal temps come back tomorrow and fri up here.....The massive amts of belt dust on left footwell and panel sure are not nice. Now I have been on black sleds most my life, so Im sure that has something to do with it.
Might dive into clutching with stock HP levels first...I think that would be a nice start as I have spoke with guys who really got them rockin with clutching only. Brings all that bottom end out more.
I also want to start messing with suspension now too, as its set bone stock still....And surprisingly rides fantastic.

Dan, My sled dusted up the panel the first 50 miles when it was stock. Switched to the Tpi secondary and primary orange springs still with the stock weights and not much dust 250 miles later. Sled is even more responsive now . Revs are starting to climb to 8900. Those stiffer springs are probably going to require new or added weight soon when it breaks in more.Love this sled...Shocks are really what make this sled, Can just pound this thing and the shocks dont give up like the X doo shocks would after some pounding.

Im strictly doing just one thing at a time....
I installed the orange TP Sec spring along with the 33/35 helix, set at 3-3.
Barely a 5 minute test run only, but man o man the snap is way way better.
And this is just this one change in sec.

OK Dan, you left yourself wide open on this one since you only changed one thing in the secondary
Do you think the new found snappy feel is a result of the TP orange secondary spring or the 33/35 helix?

Its all spring IMO. It was a bear to install without help even at 3-3. I want to put my scale on it, to see what the lbs are.OK Dan, you left yourself wide open on this one since you only changed one thing in the secondary

I need to ride it alot more to really get the feel, and today its been snowing all day so its all powder/deep...cant wait to get it on hard pack to try her. But it sure revs alot faster.....I cant wait to get this sled all done up totally. But for now Im trying to stick to one thing at time, And what I meant was secondary being the one thing I touched. Held myself back from primary spring, glide washers, and weights....want to give this some miles first.

Good to know you think it's all spring. I'll be hitting the snow for the first time this season next week. I never ran my SW with the stock clutching last year (I don't have the restraint like you do).
I installed an Ulmer clutch kit (STM weights loaded with Allen's recommended specs and primary spring) with the stock secondary spring/helix right from the get go. I really liked how the sled felt with Allen's set up.
I've got a TP orange secondary spring along with the new Dalton black/orange secondary spring to try and I'm anxious to see how the two springs compare. I also picked up a Dalton 32/36 reverse angle helix to see how that will work. Hopefully it will give a quicker spool up with the stock tune/boost levels.

Awesome parts there, please keep us posted on the dalton spring and helix too!
I may end up going to a normal progressive helix once I throw tune at her, but for now I think this reverse angle and big spring give it that snap, with all else being untouched...will know more when i get some time on this now.

So I think I narrowed it down. Left the shop for a ride. Ran fine for about 3 miles. Then started cutting out. Didn’t matter if I held it to the bar or eased into it. It was like it was constantly hitting the rev limiter. Ride to a buddies. Pulled the plastics off and checked everything, and for the hell of it I grabbed the 1/4” lines from the intake going to the sensors (haven’t looked to see what’s what there) sensors were, well warmer then outside and same with most of the hoses, except where they have somewhat like a trap where they go down and back up to the sensors. Those few inches of hose in the loop were ice cold. Held them in my hand for 10 min. Threw the hood on fired it up problem solved for about another 8 miles. Then acted up again until we hit a bush trail moving slow and I’d assume they warmed up and thawed themselves out. Thinking about moving the sensors closer to the motor to keep them warm
