Winder cuts out

Back in the old days (1970's) I had a sled that I couldn't fill the fuel to the top of the tank. If I did it would plug the vent line and the sled would have no power until the fuel level went down. Maybe this is a problem with the elbow Dan is talking about?

Just saw this thread. My Winder started this exact thing last night. Sounds like everyone here just had the issue go away? No real cure or solution? I' kind of afraid to keep running it like this, but maybe that' what it takes.

All I think there may be a design flaw we are running into here. I just got back from a three day trip northern in New Hampshire with -25 to zero temperatures. I have a 2017 with 3000 trouble free miles until yesterday. On the last day last stop I filled up with 93 octane then went in for lunch. On the ride back I experienced the same exact symptom described in this post. Hard pulls would cause engine cut outs and nose dives and then engine would kick in and lift the Skis with an occasional backfire. I thought it might be bad gas but after reading this post and “Motor falling at full throttle post” I really think there is a freeze-up valve, relay or sensor issue. BTW no codes posted. Easy pulls to 1/2 throttle no issue. Lets work together and find a solution ...maybe the design engineers or savvy tech know what can cause this behavior and post a solution(s) lets all HOPE it really suck nursing this sled back to the trailer. I will keep checking back.
Happy New Year.

These issues may be a result of the cold temps we are having. Remember last season was very mild and not many of us dealt with really cold temps. I'm sure if these issues continue they will be addressed once a cause is discovered.

I hope you are right .....the sooner the better. There is definitely something to this one. Is there any way to elevate this to the Yamaha tech team? Intermittent problems can be tough to diagnose.

I will be riding in very cold temp for the next week or so and report, to dealer and here, any coming back of this issue for sure!

I didn't even relate this to cold when it was happening yesterday, but it was below 0°F yesterday when the issue began for me. Very cold today too, and no real warm weather in sight. I' gonna ride in a little while, so I suspect this issue may continue. Hopefully not.

I started out yesterday in Caribou w 3 miles on the sled...... had it cut out twice, random, hours apart, just one cough and back to normal in mid range. did not see this problem today, 290 miles and will run out tonight.

I DID have the cold relay trouble this am. started the sled initially, moved it, killed it. 15 minutes later, no power to cluster, would crank but not light. 2-3 minutes with heat gun on relays and it fired right up. Ran great all day, seat warmer was nice to have:)

Riding today, same issue all morning. Decided to run some seafoam through the tank and almost instantly this issue went away. Pulling like a feight train with no ppwer loss at all, But now I'm throwing a code SD-26???? Now what do I have going on?

Rode on thursday in -28 temp went 3-4 km sprayed oil from oil tank (assuming) on muffler, caught fire. be careful in cold temps could be issue with these machines

I had starting issues today too. On the 17 LTX. Same thing- it would turn over but nothing displayed on the instrument cluster. Played with the kill switch and the instrument cluster finally lit and away she went. Ran like a beast all afternoon. Did everything I asked of it. And no, the kill switch was not engaged when I was trying to start it. There has to be a loose wire somewhere.

Code went away after a couple restarts and sled ran perfectly the rest of the day. Go figure. Chaulk it up the cold I guess.

This might be completely off topic....

But Tom read me something off Facebook(Myself I cant stand FB and stay far from it) where some guy said the RED elbow that goes into the fuel tank(top left side) is the return line(?) I guess and also a check valve is inside that red elbow, So i had some recent pics of mine when I took it apart.

Anyway, this guy(unknown guy) said the RED one is no good, and must be updated to black one. Said the fuel was getting cut off and then the engine will cut out. Who knows if this is right or wrong or even same issue.

But I wondered if anyone here heard of the red elbow being no good and needing black one? I try to keep up on this site but never read this before, and coming from FB who knows if its even right.

Pic of my RED elbow which is an 18.

Dan,when my sled was in a garage and melting ice/snow off,we read this article inside, and pulled the same red elbow you have, and wham it had a lot of pressure released right than. So we drilled it out and continued to check other hoses and vent tubes and most anything that could be related, just wondering if the fuel pressure regulator close to where we removed the red elbow is a problem,i remember motorhead saying he had bad gas milage with his and maybe a stumbling problem,he took it to his dealer who is Woody,s of maine, and keith ripped into the fuel system, and either found a bad regulator, and replaced or adjusted it,and it solved his problem.
