My 2017 has red one. so does my son's 2018. No issues with either sled. 2017 is harder on fuel and a lot more exhaust staining on panel.Thought they may have different return fitting effecting fuel pressure but both are the same.

Dan,i have the same secondary spring, wound to 60 degrees with stock 35 helix, but also had his orange primary and loaded stm supertip weights, with stage 4 tune evo,s tune, and CAIIts all spring IMO. It was a bear to install without help even at 3-3. I want to put my scale on it, to see what the lbs are.
I need to ride it alot more to really get the feel, and today its been snowing all day so its all powder/deep...cant wait to get it on hard pack to try her. But it sure revs alot faster.....I cant wait to get this sled all done up totally. But for now Im trying to stick to one thing at time, And what I meant was secondary being the one thing I touched. Held myself back from primary spring, glide washers, and weights....want to give this some miles first.
Dan
Dan, My sled dusted up the panel the first 50 miles when it was stock. Switched to the Tpi secondary and primary orange springs still with the stock weights and not much dust 250 miles later. Sled is even more responsive now . Revs are starting to climb to 8900. Those stiffer springs are probably going to require new or added weight soon when it breaks in more.
Hi fourload you said you have both tpi orange springs with stock weights, must be stock motor,i take it. Mine revs 9660 banging off the rev limiter, and settles in from 9500 to 9350 falling on its face in a 1/4 run of only 115 speedo, hard snow but rough with mixed ice spots.Dan, My sled dusted up the panel the first 50 miles when it was stock. My 18 Winder RTX did the cut out thing last week too. In N. Maine last week, picked it up on Tuesday the 26th, and rode it that night for the first time...no problem st all..was about Zero F that night. Next day was sunny but colder, 11:00 am I’m following a buddy on his new Winder, and it’s about -10F out. The sled is running like a champ...but the snow dust was so thick you could have choked on it. We stop to take some pictures for about 5 minutes, and then resume...and the thing wouldn’t go past 50 MPH or 6000rpm’s, and cut out and backfired like a Mofo!! Did it for 15 miles...was horrible!!
Stop and shut it off for 5 minutes, and then restart it, and it ran line a beast, and it never happened again. Dealer said it was most likely a frozen sensor. Which made sense. Sure hope it doesn’t do it again, cuz it was infuriating.
LOVE THE SLED BTW...put 430 miles on it. Saw the RPM’s starting to come up in long pulls. First day 8500 would all she’d spin. Second day got 8600 RPM’s. Third and fourth days I got 8700 and 8750... that’s the most she’d turn in the 430 miles I put on her. Saw 103 mph on a railroad bed..as I walked by my buddies Cat 1100 turbo(his turbo would pull away from my Apex pretty easily on the top). Thought I’d see a lil more top speed than the 103 mph that I did...but it was enough to walk the 1100 turbo..and she ain’t even fully broken in yet...so that made me feel good. It felt like I was going much faster though...the pull was fabulous and very impressive.
Sled seems to reach a new level every 50-75 miles or so..gets more powerful/faster the more miles I put on. Dealer told me wait til about 800-1000 miles are on it...and it’ll really wake up even more so than now.
I too put in the Dalton black/Orange Secondary spring, along with the Dalton 33/35 Helix set at 60%, and have the TD heavy duty rollers as well...and the thing has great snap, with absolutely zero lag! Was super impressed with this sled and how it comes out of the hole..it’s a rocket ship!! When I tried my buddies Cat 1100 turbo, it felt so flat and lathargic off the start, until the boost built up..the Winder is a totally different beast than the 1100 turbo..and it feels like a rocket compared to the lag of the 1100 turbo. I have 180 1450 Woodys Megabites in it and she hooks up great.
My pro cross hand guards with the LED’s looked awesome, but both sides had lights go out on the edges(very disappointed with that), Cat Dealer where I bought them is warrantying them, and I’m gonna get a new pair and have them put them on. But I love the look..just hope the new pair doesn’t do the same thing?? Anybody have this issue with their LED pro cross guards??
Clutch does raddle at idle(sounds like a lil diesel), and there’s a clutch rattle at low RPM 4500-5500 too when having to go easy on the throttle if you were in a very tight trail where you weren’t able to go over 25-30 mph. When able to burst past that the raddle was not noticeable. Other than those LIL things...the machine is nothing short of super impressive!! So glad I went with it!!

Same here, annoying noise at low RPM but not sure if it's the clutch, looks like exhaust tone at that RPM... other than that very happy with the sled!

Yup...I thought that could be it too...like my Apex Drone at lower RPM...the thing would howl like crazy if you couldn’t get past that point in tight trail areas.
I was wondering which it was..clutch or exhaust tone...but you’re probably right...it’s most likely exhaust tone. Oh well..glad I’m not the only one who heard it.

Same with mine.
The 17 LTX SE has bad exhaust staining.
The 18 RTX 50th Anniversary Sled has almost no staining.

Mine cut out last week. Don't have a clue? Bad gas? Non ethanol 91 fuel freezing up ? Years ago we had no ethanol in our fuel so I put isopropyl in it. I filled her up with 93 ethanol and also put a bottle of isopropyl in. Let it idle till it was good and hot. Took it for a ride and no more falling on its face. Who knows if that was the cure or it was a frozen sensor. I hope we have an answer soon. Hopefully we have a fix for these friggin relays and roll over valve soon also! Other than these BS issues I love the sled!!

Also interesting that we get staining from a 4 stroke. Did not expect that.

I may have some direction on the engine cutting out. It may be fuel quality related. Here's my story.......
I bought 2 sidewinder this fall. I bought 1 used LTX LE with 2100 miles on it from a dealer that was traded in and i bought 1 brand new LTX SE from a different dealer. Part of my pre-season prep was to go through both sleds and make some changes and some of those changes included installing new chain case bearings on the used sled. That entailed removing the fuel tank so I removed the fuel from the tank to make my life easier and when I put it all back together I put fresh fuel in it from a local station. The new sled didn't need the tank removed for the track swap as i wasn't changing bearings and the fuel that was in the tank was what ever the dealer i bought it from sent it out with. The first ride of the season, the new sled would occasionally cut out as described but the used sled ran perfect. i checked for the return line fitting update and both sleds had the red fitting and neither were drilled so I thought it was odd that one sled acted like it was starving for fuel and the other ran perfect and the sled that ran perfect was being ridden harder as the new sled was being broken in and also felt out as it was a totally new power delivery compared to the vipers we had that last few years. I went home, drilled the fittings, refueld both sleds and ran them another 300 miles without a hiccup and thought it was cured with the drilled fitting.
Then this past week we went on vacation and put on just over 700 miles and the sleds were flawless up until the last day. What we were doing was when the days riding ended, we topped off the tanks so we could just scoot the next morning without having to dick around filling them up. We stopped at numerous stations throughout the week and sleds ran awesome. Then Friday night we filled at the same station we filled at the last few nights as thats our main drop off point. Saturday morning we fire them up and start to ride. About 20 miles into the ride, my sled (used ltx le) started to gurgle in the midrange and wouldn't rev must over 7k and wouldn't break much over 70. After playing with the throttle positioning a little to try and figure out what I was feeling, the sled nosed over hard, backfired and then chirped back up but was still gurgling in the midrange. A short time later it nosed again, and again and again, each time the duration between episodes decreasing. I pull over to let it sit for a few minutes thing maybe something froze up and the radiant engine heat would hopefully take of it. Just after I shut down, my girlfriend appologizes for falling back as her sled was doing what it did the first ride and she backed off as it wouldn't let her get much into the powerband without cutting out and backfiring. After a few minutes, we fire back up and start riding and immediately mine come almost to a complete stop and almost stalls out and then chirps up and idles fine again. I then tried opening the cap and found no unusual pressure situation and it didn't improve the sleds running mannerisms.
So now we have 2 sleds which have been running flawlessly for 1000 miles since the very first ride where hers was acting up a little but no where near what both sleds starting doing at basically the same trail and the same time. Both sleds have been fueled at the same stations off the same pumps whether it was ethanol free or not since after the first ride. The first ride each sled had fuel from seperate sources and the source hers had was unknown as far as length of time in the tank, ethanol/no ethanol, water contamination etc. The fuel in mine was about 5 gal of fuel from a local station a week or so prior to the forst ride and then topped off the day of where as her sled came from the dealer I bought it from and was in the tank at least 2.5 months before being ridden the first time. I haven't purged the fuel tank and replaced the fuel and tested it but I find it incredibly coincidental that both sleds acted the same way at the same time on the same fuel source. If one was doing it and the other was fine, i would say something was up with one but for both to do it within 1-2 miles of each other and run like ballsack for the remaining 30 miles back to the trailer to pack them up and take them home is too coincidental for it to be back pressure fittings since they are already drilled to a 3/16" opening as others have done. Not sure what the fuel quality is whether it had water in the fuel, poor quality fuel ie; low octane, high ethanol levels or what as I'm not a fuel expert but these sleds appear to be fuel sensative to some degree. I doubt the vipers would have run like that since they were low octane sleds anyway and they would pretty much run on anything without too much issue. Something to think about and try before pulling hair out with sensors, fittings, fuel pressure regulation and what not.
