I just experienced another error code 26 after riding for approx. 1 hour riding on groomed trails. After a short quarter mile bush trail I noticed a burning smell and steam coming from my engine. I stopped the machine and I had the error code 26 and oil spillage on the bottom with smoke coming from the bottom area of the muffler. There was also spillage of oil onto the ground. I could not see were the oil had leaked from but seemed to subside. I let her sit for about 5 minutes and the Sidewinder ran fine for the rest 0f the ride. I will have a look today to see if I can see where the leakage occurred and will also contact my dealer.

It will probably be coming from your oil reservoir seal leaking. Yamaha Canada knows it’s an issue. Happened to the wife’s 18 RTX 50th at 600kms.I just experienced another error code 26 after riding for approx. 1 hour riding on groomed trails. Still no definite problem or fix for this huh. Well the last time mine did it. I was in a bad mood and figured what the hell if it blows it blows. So I held the flipper to the bar, and as I went it went longer and longer between cut outs. To the point where it just went away and ran fine ever since. So I think It’s gotta be condensation in the intake track that gets into a sensor. I mean we are taking cold air (chances are some snow dust on the filter aswell, that melts from some engine heat creating damp air) heating it up in the compressor and then cooling it again in the intercooler that has to create some moisture in the intake. Plus the cold from the windchill factor=frost at the coldest point. Possibly even small piece of ice forced into some electronic component. I have seen something similar with our work trucks that don’t get worked hard and then once they hit the Hwy they build high boost until the moisture, oil and frozen matter gets pushed through the engine. For example Anyone on here ever have a Ford 6.4 power stroke and pull the lower boost pipe off and have water and oil come out? I got almost a gallon out of one once and another would blow boots off because it was froze up. My theory could be totally out the window but..... it’s something to look at

Any codes? Have experienced this early on with mine. Got sd26. I found it was the boost hose clamps. Especially the one coming off Turbo. I replaced with a wider hose clamp. It's a bitch to replace. It's the clamp on the right hand side of turbo if your looking at sled from the front with hood off. Very easy to over tighten and strip clamp. If your not getting a code then I say fuel is suspect. I had mind cut twice in 3800 miles and no code. I feel it was fuel. Threw a can of Klotz octane boost in. Sometimes you think your getting premium when in fact the first gallon or two maybe 87 with ethanol. Especially if it's a one hose station with the three buttons for different grades.Hey guys ive got a 2017 sidewinder rtx with 400 km on it and it falls flat if trying to bring it over 7000 rpm ? Thanks for the info , its going back to the dealer but will look into it . Its funny though when it cuts out if i let it sit for a while it seem better and if its mild like above -10 its alot better.

It would be interesting to see if you totally bypassed the rollover valve and just ran it without it. And or put a whole can of the klotz octane boost trail side when it started doing it. With no codes it's probably not the boost clamps IMO.And no codes when it cuts out . Its very upsetting considering thenmoney i spent on something new.

I agree with the roleover valve because my thinking that its freezing over or something to do with the cold. Im putting alot of pressure on the dealer thats why we have waranty . But it would be nice to find my problem before winter finishes. It would be interesting to see if you totally bypassed the rollover valve and just ran it without it. I had the same problem cutting out but i guess sooner or later if pressure builds up it blows out the seal. I hope to find out tomorrow if my dealer found out what caused the error code 26.

I’m in the same damn boat still. I have 2 winders doing the same thing and I’ve tried a bunch of things to try and get it resolved. At first I thought it was the return line fitting. Drilled them both and they ran great for over 900 miles. Thought that was it until they did it again a few weeks ago and thought it was bad fuel. Purged all fuel and tried again. Not the problem. Then thought it may be a heat saturation thing and fuel was vapor locking in line and rail as they seemed to be acting up when temps were hovering close to freezing or just over. Ran them last night in 15-20* air, ran perfect other than the trails being rock hard due to a warm day and rain the day before and engine ran hotter than usual but still ran fine. Ran them again today and both ran like garbage and the temps were 15-22* again and trails were granulated but better than yesterday as engine temps were 172-176 consistently. I’ve tried various fuels, fuel additives such as octane booster, injector cleaner, k-100, stp gas treatment in case of water in tank, ethanol and non ethanol fuels etc. I have the updated elbow in the return line. My sled ran worse than hers and wouldn’t go over 35 mph without a loss of power and backfiring. It would backfire like a semi automatic rifle coming down hills while just engine braking and it would stall at just about every road crossing or junction. I’m about outnof patience with these things. Regretting selling the vipers as we put over 15k miles on those without an major issue. Only issue we had was the fuel pumps would break a wire but that is a free 20 min fix. I hate not being able to figure out something that’s inconsistent. You think you narrowed it down and then it gets debunked and I’m back to square one. No dealer has ever heard of the issue, no one on here or anywhere else knows what’s going on and the factory claims they are a perfect masterpiece with zero issues ever.
